2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good balance of romance, Sci-Fi, and war with a great cast of players By A.Z. Reed was another great book in this Series! The author did a good job I think of slowing things down a bit after Gabe. Gabe we learned so much about what the aliens intentions were that it was nice to step back and see again what impact they've already had. In this book, we follow Natalya as she comes to terms with the medical experimentation that the aliens subjected her to. She has both physical and psychological fallout from her captivity. I thought the author did a nice job of not letting the heavy get too heavy. We felt for Natalya, I especially cringed during the part where she was restrained by base staff, and we definitely cared about what had and will happen to her, but we didn't sink into a dark hole. Some authors want us to get too deep into the despair that it becomes no fun any more. The author didn't do that here. She addressed it with compassion. I also appreciated that Reed while alpha was not annoyingly so. Definitely wouldn't mind a Reed in my court!While Reed and Natalya's story line was great, I just have to comment on Claudia and Shaw. I LOVE these two and the beautiful and fun relationship that the author is weaving through the series. These two are hilarious when they bicker, adorable when they show they care for each other, and on top of it are great soldiers for the war story line. But especially in this book, I loved Claudia. This book has really confirmed how smart and insightful she is. If you look at each book, she has had at least a small part in each relationship. In this one in particular, I cheered when she called Reed out on the carpet. I literally did and I don't do that often. I love Claudia and I look forward to learning more about her too.All in all, this was just another great book. I continue to love reading about the side characters, Noah and Capt. Bladon, the General, Dev, all these characters are developing well and make me curious about each of them. Looking forward to Roth and what we'll learn from him because other than being a good soldier, he's a bit of a mystery yet!

By Bigbookworm If you are curious enough about this book to get as far as my review then you are probably a Hell Squad fan already. If not please go and download Hell Squad: Marcus... Yes these books do stand alone and have their own HEA, but the action within follows a much bigger storyline and I wouldn't want you to miss out! This is the 4th book in a very good series of stories set in a secret armed forces base near Sydney following an alien invasion. The heroes of each are part of Hell Squad, which ventures out into Sydney to help survivors and gather resources and intelligence. The heroines are all strong characters in their own right and very easy to identify with.Reed is Hell squad's newest recruit and has been fascinated by Natayla since he rescued her in a previous book. However, in his wisdom he decides that she needs time to recover from her ordeal before he can make his move. Natayla has a decidedly different opinion on her needs and poor Reed doesn't stand a chance against the fireworks that result!The bigger story sees Hell Squad and other warriors of Blue Mountain base target the aliens power supply. In this action we learn more about other characters who will hopefully star in their very own novella. I love this series and look forward to each release, I just wish that each was longer - that is how good they are!

A suspense filled 205 page standalone with an HEA, better when read in order for the overarcing storyline and addictive enough to make it impossible to put down.Reed MacKinnon, a former Navy SEAL, joined the Hell Squad as a replacement after making a name for himself on another squad. He is an explosives expert, is at home in the water, and carries a mayhem carbine with mini missle launcher attached. He has a "brown-eyed girl" in his thoughts and dreams, one who looks alot like his fantasy librarian.Dr. Natalya Vasin is an alien lab survivor and renowned genius energy scientist. Since her rescue she has been working with Blue Mountain Base's technology team to improve the base's efficiency, when new information about the Gizida's energy systems comes in. At the same time, lethal human raptor hybrids infiltrate the base like Trojan horses and it comes to light that not only is Natalya no longer fully human, but that she can speak and read raptor. As paranoia runs through the base, Reed will have to find a way to keep Natalya safe, both at base and on the missions being planned to disable the Gizida's energy sources, missions that will require Natalya's expertise.
