"Fast-paced, gritty, and laced with impressive jolts of dark humor, Leon's "Havoc Rising" successfully turns the genre on its head by taking familiar mythological figures and steering them into uncharted waters." ~ Michael Meyerhofer, award winning author of the Dragonkin Trilogy "Havoc Rising is in the top three first books in a series I have read in the last year. The other two are Aeronaut's Windlass, by Jim Butcher, and Rosemary and Rue, by Seanan McGuire. I hope you can tell by the company that this book is really something special. I'm eager to read the second!" ~ Galleywampus "In all this was a fast paced and gripping read. At times laugh out loud funny, and at other's edge of your seat tense, Havoc Rising is a must read." ~ Book Lover's Life Eternal life. Eternal battle. Steve—Diomedes Tydides to his Trojan War buddies—just had a bad day on his charter fishing boat in San Diego, but when the goddess Athena calls on her faithful warrior for another secret mission, he’s ready. The bomb that exploded inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art isn’t the crime American authorities think it is. Someone also stole the Cup of Jamshid, and Diomedes knows its fortune-telling abilities won’t be used for anything benign. Though Diomedes recovers the Cup from a determined shaman holed up beneath Central Park, when he finds his allies slain and the Cup taken once more, he knows he’s up against a truly powerful enemy. Over a millennium has passed since Diomedes last contended with Medea of Colchis, deranged wife of Jason the Argonaut, but neither her madness nor her devotion to Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, has waned, and she intends to use the Cup of Jamshid to release across the world a dark brand of chaos unseen in human history. Immortal since the Trojan War, Diomedes must once again fight for mortals he understands less and less, against a divine evil he may never truly defeat.

About the Author Brian S. Leon is truly a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. He began writing in order to do something with all the useless degrees, knowledge, and skills–most of which have no practical application in civilized society–he accumulated over the years. His varied interests include, most notably, mythology of all kinds and fishing, and he has spent time in jungles and museums all over the world, studying and oceans and seas across the globe chasing fish, sometimes even catching them. He has also spent time in various locations around the world doing other things that may or may not have ever happened. Inspired by stories of classical masters like Homer and Jules Verne, as well as modern writers like J.R.R. Tolkien, David Morrell, and Jim Butcher, combined with an inordinate amount of free time, Mr. Leon finally decided to come up with tales of his own.

Leon has created a world and character I want to spend more time with. The speed and humor of the writing are what put me in mind of Jim Butcher. Leon's world also involves the fae but what hooked me completely was his inclusion of a panopoly of mythological figures. I especially love that while they play their roles in this tale clearly, we haven't been given their whole story. There is so much more to learn in future novels. The only two characters I feel he could have introduced with more care were Frigate and Geek. I don't find them to be as real as others because I feel like they were recruited to the team with little foreplay. Give me MORE! I love the fight scenes. And I love the relationships. Looking forward to the next one.

By Amazon Customer The story of a legendary warrior of Ancient Greece who is still alive and fighting the good fight in the Modern World. Give it a try I thought. What's not to like ? And I was right! The author does a fantastic job of bringing several different myths and legends together with modern life into a cohesive and intriguing story. Greek Gods and Titans brush shoulders with Fae warriors and Middle Eastern djinni. Our eponymous hero, Steve Dore (was he a dockworker in a previous life?) bridges the gap between the battlefields of ancient Troy and modern day Brooklyn and does so convincingly. The joint use of modern and ancient weapons and tactics in particular is very well done in the various action sequences.Mr Leon blends all the various different mythologies together with a well paced and plotted storyline and interesting characters to produce a novel that is, in my opinion, more than the sum of it's parts. I am certainly hoping this is but book one in a, hopefully lengthy, ongoing series.Well done!!Douglas Park

Havoc Rising is a complete page turner with a fun, dynamic and exciting plot. Follow the adventures of a complex and heroic protagonist as he battles to save humanity while struggling to preserve his own! A blend of mythology in a modern day setting! I can't get enough and can't wait for the sequel!
