GRAND CLASSIC SCIENCE-FICTION SPACE ADVENTURE IN THE TRADITION OF ROBERT A. HEINLEIN STRANDED AND SURROUNDED!--First In Bryan Smith's Colonel Landry Space Adventure SeriesIt is the 25th Century. The space cruiser Beagle, under the command of Colonel Kendrick Landry, explores a planet ravaged by war millennia ago, now inhabited by hostile savage humanoids. The Beagle is shot down and grounded by an ancient, mechanized planetary defense network created by an advanced civilization long pre-dating the humanoid savages. The humanoids abduct two women officers: the sexy and sultry Maya Terrazone and the bright but petulant Veronica Winters. Colonel Landry leads a rescue party to find and bring back the two women with the help of Veronica's pet telepathic alien tiger Jones. But if the women still live and Landry rescues them, can his group survive another crossing of the desert terrain-teeming with the savage humanoids-to return to the Beagle? The humanoids are going extinct because long-ago biological warfare killed all the females. Can the Beagle genetic scientists create females to distract the savage male humanoids and permit the crew to make repairs and escape? But even if the Beagle crew makes repairs and regains orbit around the planet, then the ancient planetary defense network may fire upon them a second--and likely fatal--final time.GOLDEN WRITING, MEMORABLE CHARACTERSA lean and flowing prose style. A well-crafted plot. Well-developed characters. The beautiful and temperamental Veronica Winters. The supremely sexual and tough while yet sensitive Maya Terrazone. Colonel Kendrick Landry is a supremely focused, capable, and yet vulnerable man. Still haunted by a near-death event of many years ago. The reader is drawn deep under his skin, and views the distant world of "Sigma Theta III" from his perspective as he struggles desperately to save his crew and himself from becoming hopelessly marooned and dying on the planet. The novel creates a stark vision of determined men and women fighting for survival against overwhelming odds. THE SCIENCE OF FERAL PLANETMuch of the Sci-Fi space adventure of today makes only routine and passing reference to such concepts as faster-than-light space travel and the "beaming" of characters from one location to another. Concepts that were staples of the Golden Age Sci-Fi of the 1950's and 1960's and provided inspiration for much filmography including of course the famous Star Trek franchise. Golden Age Sci-Fi coined the term "astrogation" for navigation in space. Later sci-fi often defaulted to the term "navigator" (e.g. Mr. Sulu in Star Trek). Feral Planet adopts the terms "astrogation" and "astrogator" in part as a tribute to the Sci-Fi Golden Age.Feral Planet gives particular attention to faster than light travel accomplished by way of "space warping" as written about in scientific journals by theoretical physicist Miguel Alcubierre. The novel provides detail as to how such processes might actually work. A RENAISSANCE OF SPACE OPERAFeral Planet harkens back to Science Fiction's Golden Age of such distinguished writers as Robert A. Heinlein, Poul Anderson, and H. Beam Piper. Yet the novel achieves its own fresh modern originality. Good Sci-Fi "Space Opera" has become a rarity today. But for lovers of the genre Feral Planet marks a fresh new resurgence of an old favorite. The novel is compelling modern Sci-Fi Space Opera at its best. Feral Planet will be a welcome relief for readers tired out of the contemporary vogue clichés of vampires, werewolves, dragons and princesses, galactic empires, and "star wars." FIRST OF A SERIESFeral Planet is the first in the Colonel Landry Space Adventure Series. Four other novels in the series are scheduled for release: --Dome of Slavery --Final Battle --In Search of Kronos

From the Author EXCERPT FROM FERAL PLANETWhile exploring a war-ravaged distant planet, the exploratory team of the space cruiser Beagle are unexpectedly grounded and marooned on the planet in the midst of savage and hostile alien natives . . . The exploratory team from the Aurora-launched from the hangar deck and dispatched to the planet's surface in the space cruiser Beagle-had been observing the inhabitants of Sigma Theta III . . . As lush as it might once have been, the planet was now a recovering wasteland. It was craggy and held sparse vegetation and lower animal life forms to barely sustain the planet's dominant species. The dominant species was humanoid and large-up to about three meters tall, broad-chested, and thickly-muscled. Substantially stronger than a man. They had pale greenish skin, heads naturally bald, with yellow eyes . . . The humanoids were extremely territorial as to the land. The Beagle team saw the different groupings of the race turn on one another with unbridled vicious aggression. The bows and arrows and other weapons were used in war-like precision to accomplish repeated skirmishes marked by spear impalements and tomahawk decapitations . . . Aside from territorial hostilities, the planet's humanoid race was becoming extinct. All the tribal members were male. There were no females. Nakamura had explained it to Landry. "There is a virus still extant and detectable in the atmosphere-probably a by-product of biological warfare which contributed to almost destroying the race. It appears that the females had a particular vulnerability to the virus and eventually died out entirely." No more humanoids could be borne. The planet's dominant race was slated for extinction as a final side effect of its long ago final war. Nothing to be done. "Time to leave," Landry said . . . Maya was at the astrogation console on the Beagle. She fired the cruiser's jet propulsion wings. They almost immediately achieved orbit and sought to rendezvous with the Aurora, awaiting their return. All should have been well. Then the Beagle became surrounded by a surge of electro-magnetic energy which-surprisingly enough-was emitted from the planet's surface. She sought, too late, to surround the Beagle with a protective force screen drawn from the cruiser's energy core. Before the protective field could completely surround them, the electro-magnetic surge from the planet had already taken hold . . . For a moment the Beagle hung suspended and buffeted about in orbit. Then all systems were dead, and the cruiser was falling. "We are going to burn up in the atmosphere on re-entry!" Landry shouted. And they would have burned, had not Maya's hands darted across her control boards-based on recollection and instinct in the darkness-and tapped into the auxiliary power supply. She fired the two jet propulsion wings but the Beagle could not regain orbit. It had only enough power to safely re-enter the atmosphere without burn-up. And to break their descent so not to smash up completely on the planet's surface which came rushing up to meet them. They had landed. Beaten and knocked about, but all of them alive.

The non-stop action keeps things going at a fast pace so there's never a dull moment, and the characters are exciting and original with these unique personalities that really capture your interest. It's sci-fi fantasy with a pulse, taking you way beyond the usual cool technology and hot alien offerings. This is a book that will make you think, long after you've set it aside.Kendrick Landry is one of those get-er-done kind of guys but beneath the tough exterior is a real guy who is all too aware of his own mortality. He is given an assignment involving Major Maya Terrazone, a Eurasian Astrogator and Astrophysicist and member of the Lycanthian Polyamory League in New Los Angeles, and Major Veronica Winters, a Caucasian Science Officer and Chief Astrophysicist among other things, and the proud owner of a male Polaris tiger who will be along for the ride. Traveling intergalactic space with a practicing group sex participant and a presumptuous science officer with a telepathic tiger will prove even more of an adventure than he could ever imagine when they crash the Beagle and find themselves stranded on a planet teeming with hostile inhabitants.Bryan Smith has created a fabulously rich world here. From Landry's AI house computer Linda to the warlike, all male inhabitants of Sigma Theta III everything is brought to life with visually descriptive prose. Throughout it all the characters shine through, driving the story as they struggle for survival against all odds. It's a fantastic beginning to a very promising series that will thrill old school and contemporary sci-fi fans alike.

Really - nubile maidens and push-over spacers with lust burning on every page - if you left out the sexploitation, you would have a possibly interesting book by a new author. Otherwise, you have a distracting sex-romp interspersed with some science fiction. I thought this was a little strange having read sci-fi for many years. Not my choice - Col. Landry will be rutting around space without my company as far as I'm concerned.

A few quality reads in the past few years, "The Martian" being one of them, changed my tune and I have really grown to love the sci fi genre and all that it offers. There are some real stinkers out there in this genre though as some can write books that don't make sense or flow properly but this was not my experience at all with author Bryan Smith's fantastic new novel "Feral Planet".The first in the "Colonel Landry Adventure Series", this is the story of a pretty epic space adventure with Colonel Kendrick Landry at its center. Many centuries in the future, Landry's ship, The Beagle, is exploring a desolate planet and is shot down by some old defense technology. They find themselves pretty quickly at a disadvantage on this planet that is inhabited by hostile humanoids, who have managed to kidnap two female ships officers. It is up to Landry to not only retrieve these two lovely ladies but also to find a way off of the planet.I loved the adventure that was set up here that began pretty much immediately. As with a fantasy novel, sci fi set on a remote planet requires a good deal of world building and I thought that Smith did a fantastic job with this - vividly describing both the landscape and the inhabitants of the planet. The characters were relatable and I feel quite invested in this crew - so much so that I am anxious to continue the adventure in the next books in this series.

What is the best way for a company to innovate? That's exactly the wrong question. The better question: How can organizations get the maximum possible value from their innovation investments? Advice recommending "innovation vacations" and the luxury of failure may be wonderful for organizations with time to spend and money to waste. But this audiobook addresses the innovation priorities of companies that live in the real world of limits. They want fast, frugal, and high-impact innovations. They don't just seek superior innovation; they want superior innovators.

In The Innovator's Hypothesis, innovation expert Michael Schrage advocates a cultural and strategic shift: small teams collaboratively - and competitively - crafting business experiments that make top management sit up and take notice. Creativity within constraints - clear deadlines and clear deliverables - is what serious innovation cultures do. Schrage introduces the 5X5 framework: giving diverse teams of five people up to five days to come up with portfolios of five business experiments costing no more than $5,000 each and taking no longer than five weeks to run.

The book describes multiple portfolios of 5X5 experiments drawn from Schrage's advisory work and innovation workshops worldwide. These include financial service approaches for improving customer service and addressing security challenges; a pharmaceutical company's hypotheses for boosting regulatory compliance; and a diaper division's efforts to give babies and parents alike better "diapering experiences" with glow-in-the-dark adhesives, diagnostic capability, and bundled wipes.

Schrage's 5X5 is enterprise innovation gone viral: Successful 5X5s make people more effective innovators, and more effective innovators mean more effective innovations.

Innovate quickly with Cheap Experiments, but take the proposed "solution" with a grain of salt (has not been experimented with) By Ron Kohavi My team provides the experimentation platform for most online experiments at Microsoft (e.g., search for exp-platform), and I have been running online experiments for 12 years now, with Bing running about 10,000 experiments per year, so I know something about online controlled experiments. Michael Schrage quotes me a few times in the book, and encouraged me to write an unbiased review. The book is written extremely well, and the overall message is absolutely spot on: most organizations would benefit from running cheap experiments and iterating quickly. In many cases, organizations get into analysis-paralysis instead of running simple experiments; worse, deep analyses often come late and have low predictive accuracy. The 5x5 approach advocated by Michael Schrage says "Give a diverse team of 5 people no more than 5 days to come up with a portfolio of 5 business experiments that cost no more than $5,000 (each) and take no longer than 5 weeks to run."My key observation is that the author proposes a solution with a plan to a problem, and violates his own advice to avoid such solutions. He's asking the reader to believe in exactly what he's asking others to suspend doing. There are many possible ways to get an organization to be data-driven. Is 5x5 better than others? Having been humbled by many good ideas that don't perform as well as people hope, I'm not sure there's data to say that the 5x5 proposal is dominating. In the paper "Online Controlled Experiments at Large Scale" there's a section on the "Cost vs. Benefit and the Ideas Funnel" where prioritization of ideas is discussed, a mechanism that aligns more with the author's statement that "Experiments need to be seen and managed as investments" and less with the 5x5 approach. Here are the key themes that I agree with- Be "lean" and "agile" and run experiments quickly instead of analyzing and debating. Minimum Viable Products are a key theme Mike Moran calls it Do It Wrong Quickly- Reduce the cost of running experiments- Experimentation is as much a cultural problem as a technical one. A platform/system can solve the technical challenge, but it's harder to address the cultural issues- Try to craft a hypothesis that the experiment answers, from which you can learn, whether the experiment is successful (e.g., rejecting the null) or not. If you change too many things, you learn little when the result comes out "flat."A couple of themes I disagree with- Experimentation is not a panacea for every problem and every organization. There is little discussion in the book about when NOT to experiment. Netflix and Amazon can make mistakes in recommendations, but you don't want many of those in Nuclear Submarines. Knight Capital was agile and proud of their experiments, until in Aug 2012 they had an error that caused a $440 million loss and erased 75% of Knight's equity value.- The section about "Good ideas" didn't work for me. I equate a good idea with a hypothesis that is true, i.e., that we validate in an experiment. The author writes "The Earth is not flat; the moon isn't made of green cheese; and the future of business innovation doesn't depend on good ideas. It never has....Good ideas are usually bad investments. They're rarely worth the time, money, or effort. They overpromise and underdeliver. They seduce and they cheat....Good ideas might be better described as the empty calories of enterprise innovation: accessible, tasty, and momentarily satisfying. But they're not good for you. They'll make you sick." I believe this is a terminology issue, but I would have used "flash-in-the-pan idea" that upon evaluation is not really good.Overall, this is a great book to read and buy for your managers, if they need to be better motivated on how to innovate better and faster with experiments.

But, this narrow subject just does not warrant a whole book. A 10 page essay would have more than sufficed. The writing is so repetitive because the author struggles to spread 10 pages worth of content over 200 pages of print. It just does not work. The title of my review indicates the author repeated his 5x5 concept a hundred times throughout the book. And, that's probably a lowball estimate. But, the book has other weaknesses. There is nothing magic about the number 5. Although 5x5xetc... has a good ring to it, there is an unlimited way of gathering resources to conduct short-term, rapid feedback experiments. You can indeed try 5 different concepts with teams of 5 people each costing no more than $5,000, over a 5-week period. But, many innovations have been done with a single person, trying a single concept, costing close to nothing, with near immediate feedback in this Internet age. The single innovator may succeed not by trying very different concepts but by iteratively honing and tweaking his original concept and watch live the performance of his last iteration. That's a similar approach the author indicates that Edison, Jobs, Amazon, and other innovators have used. So, the author clearly understands this. But, it does contradict his 5x5 dogma.Regarding designing rapid low cost experiments, there may be some avenues the author did not explore. Within the book, I did not see any mention of internal prediction markets that are used by many hi-tech companies to quickly differentiate what projects are successful. Also, I did not see any material on clothing companies like H&M that have specialized in doing short-runs of newly designed clothes and measure their sales performance nearly live and rapidly scale up production of the winners and shut down the losers. Finally, his whole chapter on good ideas are actually bad titled "Ideas are the Enemy" is really bad. It goes without saying that whether an idea is good or bad can be assessed only after it has been tested. Nevertheless, you better give some thought to what idea/hypothesis you want to test to begin with. Just randomly, testing 5x5 a bunch of concepts you have not given serious thoughts to it is a waste of time.Within that same chapter, his criticism of Keynes' supposedly vapid intellectual elitism is either misinterpreting what Keynes meant or misplaced. In this post-crisis era, economists make for good punching bags; and, often for good reasons. But, the author's punches for the most part missed the punching bag. He could have just as easily lauded Keynes who was among the first ones to advance that most often we really can't forecast (Keynes' uncertainty concept). Societies, economies are very complex systems with unanticipated interactive feedback loops. As such, Keynes provided the intellectual foundation for the author that given that we can't forecast, we better instead experiment to find out what actually works. If you are interested in innovation and related developments, I have come across two books that do cover what the author does and a lot more. You may find those books interesting. The first one is Duncan Watts Everything Is Obvious: How Common Sense Fails Us and the second one is Smartcuts: How Hackers, Innovators, and Icons Accelerate Success by Shane Snow.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. How and why "simple, fast, cheap, smart, lean, and important experiments can supercharge any serious innovation process" By Robert Morris As I began to read Michael Schrage's latest book, I was again reminded of a passage in Paul Schoemaker's latest book, Brilliant Mistakes: "The key question companies need to address is not `[begin italics] Should [end italics] we make mistakes?' but rather [begin italics] Which [end italics] mistakes should we make in order to test our deeply held assumptions?'" This is precisely what Anjali Sastry and Kara Penn have in mind when introducing, in Fail Better, what they characterize as a better approach to innovation: designing smart mistakes, learn from them, and thereby achieve greater success and do so sooner.Peter Sims has much of value to say about this strategy in Little Bets: How Breakthrough Ideas Emerge from Small Discoveries. As he explains, "At the core of this experimental approach, little bets are concrete actions taken to discover, test, and develop ideas that are achievable and affordable. They begin as creative possibilities that get iterated and refined over time, and they are particularly valuable when trying to navigate amid uncertainty, create something new, or attend to open-ended problems."In Serious Play (1999), Schrage introduces several core concepts that he develops in much greater depth in this, his latest book. The 5x5 X(experimental)-team approach is a rapid innovation methodology emphasizing lightweight, high-impact experimentation, as follows: "Give a diverse team of 5 people no more than 5 days to come up with a portfolio of 5 business experiments that cost no more than $5,000 (each) and take no longer than 5 weeks to run." Schrage adds, "the 5x5 seeks an 80/20/20 vision. That is, what hypothesis could we test -- what experiments could we run -- that generate 80 percent of the useful information that we need to make a decision in 20 percent of the time, and with but 20 percent of the resources that we ordinarily use to do so?" Schrage thoroughly explains the theory and practice of this method in the book. Yogi Berra once observed, "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is." Presumably Schrage agrees. These are among the dozens of passages of greatest interest and value to me, listed also to suggest the scope of Schrage's coverage:o The Business Experiment: A fast, inexpensive, and informative test of a business hypothesis (Pages 10 & 12)o Implementation and prototypes (24-33)o Experimentation and innovation (36-38 & 85-87)o Warren Buffett (49-56)o Resistance to business experiments (67-687, 85-88, & 178-179)o Blockbuster (77-85)o Julian Simon (89-92)o 5x5 X-team approach (95-138)o Business experiments (141-153)o Charles Kettering (146-148)o Business hypotheses (177-185)o David Kelley (210-211)o Decision theory (213-216)I commend Schrage on his innovative use of (boxed) mini-commentaries, inserted throughout his narrative that include "The 5x5" (Page 5), "Formulating the Hypothesis" (11), "Moving from Hypothesis to Experiment" (12-13), "A Prototype Is a Hypothesis" (30-32), "Scott Cook, Founder and Chairman of Intuit, on Experimentation" (57-58), and "Q&A: The Experimenter [Gary Loveman]" (205-206). This material complements rather than supplements the information, insights, and counsel he provides elsewhere in the narrative. The same can be said of passages that examine experiments by real people in real-world situations, experiments that produced mixed results to be sure but demonstrate the truth of Thomas Edison's claim, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." The companies that have --or should have -- followed the 5x5 X-team approach include (in alpha order) Amazon, Apple, Blockbuster, Delco, Facebook, GE, General Motors, Google, NCR, P&G, Tesco, Toyota, and Walmart.John Kotter once suggested that the most difficult challenge to change initiatives is to change how people think about change. The same can be said about innovation and experimentation, as Schrage suggests in the book's final chapter, "Experimenting with Experimentation." He quotes Kevin Kelly: "Anybody who works in science knows that they're constantly finding new things that they don't know. It increases their ignorance...while science is certainly increasing knowledge, it's actually increasing our ignorance even faster. So you could say that the chief effect of science is the expansion of ignorance." You could also say, at least I do, that rather than increasing ignorance, science increases our knowledge of what we don't know. Some of the worst decisions people make are based on insufficient or inaccurate information. Hence the critical importance of testing all assumptions and premises. Paradoxically, the most innovative and creative thinking requires the multiple disciplines of the scientific method. Here's Schrage's response to Kelly's comments: "Substitute business for science and opportunity for ignorance, and Kelly's tongue-in-check observation explains why the ongoing revolution in experimentation defines the innovation future. There's never been a better time for innovating with experiments or experimenting with innovation."Obviously the "Whack-a-mole" approach to innovation makes no sense nor does a concentration of massive resources on one major experiment. Breakthroughs are few and far between lots of small, low-risk, prudent, and numerous experiments.Invoking a set of horticulture metaphors, here's my take on Michael Schrage's approach: innovation requires careful planting of seedlings (i.e. ideas, possibilities, hypotheses) in properly prepared soil. Cultivate them and protect them for a while, then nourish those that begin to indicate promising growth. A few will. Perhaps combine a few of the others and keep an eye on them. Eventually, hopefully, there will a few robust results.

This book is a continuation of my Motivation and Personality, published in 1954. It was constructed in about the same way, that is, by doing one piece at a time of the larger theoretical structure. It is a predecessor to work yet to be done toward the construction of a comprehensive, systematic and empirically based general psychology and philosophy which includes both the depths and the heights of human nature. The last chapter is to some extent a program for this future work, and serves as a bridge to it. It is a first attempt to integrate the "health-and-growth psychology" with psychopathology and psychoanalytic dynamics, the dynamic with the holistic, Becoming with Being, good with evil, positive with negative. Phrased in another way, it is an effort to build on the general psychoanalytic base and on the scientific-positivistic base of experimental psychology, the Eupsychian, B-psychological and metamotivational superstructure which these two systems lack, going beyond their limits. It is very difficult, I have found, to communicate to others my simultaneous respect for and impatience with these two comprehensive psychologies. So many people insist on being either pro-Freudian or anti-Freudian, pro-scientific-psychology or anti-scientific-psychology, etc. In my opinion all such loyalty-positions are silly. Our job is to integrate these various truths into the whole truth, which should be our only loyalty.

Toward a Psychology of Being, by Abraham H. Maslow

About the Author In its first edition, Abraham Maslow's "Toward a Psychology of Being" (1962) sold more than 100,000 copies. Like R. D. Laing, Maslow questioned the old psychoanalytic notions of being well or ill "adjusted" to the world and spoke from a broadly human base. Human nature---the inner nature of every individual which is uniquely his or her own---"seems not to be . . . necessarily evil; . . . the basic human capacities are on their face either neutral, premoral or positively good." What we call evil behavior appears most often to be a secondary reaction to frustration of this intrinsic nature." On this foundation, Maslow built an affirmation of people and people's potentialities for self-fulfillment and psychological health. He considered his "humanistic" or "Eupsychian" approach to be part of the revolution then taking place in psychology, as in other fields, toward a new view of people. He saw people as sociable, creative, and loving beings whose welfare is not in the cure of "neurosis" or other ills, but on the development of their most socially and personally constructive potentials. Maslow was born in New York City and received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He was chairman of the psychology department at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He taught for 14 years at Brooklyn College, and was the president of the American Psychological Association from 1967 to 1968. His wife Bertha helped edit his journals and last papers after his death and assisted with a memorial volume about him.

I did not know it was an abrieved edition ... and am very, very disappointed in this edition. It has reduced the quality and richness of Maslow's original work. L. Michael Hall, Ph.D. author of "Self-Actualization Psychology"

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Life Affirming By David Taylor We've almost all heard of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This book describes it, though, the triangle diagram is nowhere present. The best way i can think of to describe this book is that it is life-affirming. By that, i mean that Maslow recognizes that we have legitimate needs that must be met in order to be a healthy, growing person - he affirms the legitimacy of these needs, that repressing them can lead to becoming neurotic but meeting them in a healthy manner can enable one to self-actualize. I've underlined something on just about every page. He affirms "that our deepest needs are not, in themselves, dangerous or evil or bad," (p. 122) which he compares with "a special tendency in Western culture...to assume that these instinctoid needs of the human being, his so-called animal nature, are bad or evil. As a consequence, many cultural institutions are set up for the express purpose of controlling, inhibiting, suppressing, and repressing this original nature of man," (p. 126). The book gives a good understanding of what it means "to become more fully human," (127). I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and felt like it was very therapeutic to do so.

By Joseph A.Santiago Maslow is one of the most prominent behavioral psychologists in the country. In this book he elects to veer away from thepathology of the mind and rather reflects on our positives. Our ability to give love, support and nurturing and the positives ofsteering away from either/or and having an attitude of that AND this. Suggesting that cooperation is infinitely better than the dualitythat many of us practice. You will come away with a new way of looking at things and a refreshing look at new attitudes with whateveryou deal with. Relationships with others leads the pack.

Review

"This is a welcome addition to the genitourinary imaging literature. It provides an extensive review of genitourinary pathology, nicely parsed into organs. It is an excellent reference for those wishing to review a particular diagnosis. However, it is also of a manageable size that can easily be read cover-to-cover during a two- to four-week GU rotation. The fact that the publishers have decided to cleave genitourinary imaging from the abdominal imaging book is an excellent response to the ever-increasing amount of medical information." Reviewed by Tara Catanzano, MD (Baystate Medical Center) Doody’s Score: 96 - 4 Stars

In each dream the man would call to her to come to him and called her his "soulmate", weird right? Nothing could surprise Jessie more than when her dream man showed up at her job, and again asking her to come with him. After she convinces him to meet her for lunch, they go for a walk, he mentions getting her to his "ship" and a "mating impulse", then she's in his arms headed for a dark alley. Next thing Jessie knows, she's in a room with a view of Earth. It's official Jessie you've been abducted into space to become the bride King Ameer.....congrats!!

Just the thing to snuggle up in bed with to provide fuel for dreams., editing could be better. Some of the sentences just don't make sense. Wording or phrases are awkward at time. I found mysel stoping and trying to figure out what author meant. Yes I would recommend to others, especially if they had Kindle Unlimited account.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Solid Installment With a Shining Moment By Some Average Guy This book was, appropriately, about rebuilding after the big battle in the previous book. Rebuilds are normally boring, but the author did a great job on this one and found several ways to keep the action up. By the points:X The scene where The Admiral deals with his Tractoan problem made the book. That one scene alone. The rest is just gravy.X Major focuses: Rear admiral Janeski/imperials, Nikomedes, org growing pains, family issues, reputation/role of the MSPX Don’t like how Nikomedes storyline was left, nor how it played out with AkanthaX Like how the old Middleton crew rec’d a nice setup for another fun side adventureX Would have liked more than a tease over the clover heartX C’mon with the clover timeline alreadyX Thought the babies would be a bigger dealX More info on MEN / MANX A quick readThe end was where it had to be and not bad considering.I'm giving this the full 5 stars for the Tractoan scene. The overall book was a 4, but that scene and its dialog is one of a few I've read over the years that will stick in my mind long after I've forgotten everything else about this series. Like when the main character gets the silver talent pipes in the scene from Rothfuss' "The Name of the Wind".

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Love the Series but too many recurring loose ends. . . By Skybird Overall a good placeholder in the series with a number of setups for the future but we need to see resolution (to some degree) of some of the existing plot lines. I agree with Roknar, cliff hangers are all well and good but there needs to be clarification at some point to supporting story lines. I.E.:Warning: Minor spoilersThe MEN/MAN/Women of Two/Sisters of Three plot line needs to be fleshed out since it appears to be a major driver of the entire series.Akantha along with Elaine (Mom) have both conclusively demonstrated a lack of interest in Jason’s well-being (he received no warning about Crystal/Ishtaraaaa from either/no warning from Akantha about Nikomedes/Elaine clearly stated a greater concern for Crystal/Ishtaraa then Jason’s survival-despite all the protestations to the contrary). For a character that is supposed to be able to see plots within plots and be trained to handle people he doesn’t recognize he is merely a mission to Elaine and a sperm donor to Akantha (he can’t be that slow).Akantha is supposed to be a smart, strong woman but she not only collapsed when Nikomedes threatened her but accepted him as her next Protector if he killed Jason (threats to her children and Hold notwithstanding). There’s a faithful, loving, supportive wife for you. Then she tells Jason “It will never happen again,” and he swallows it? Really? What was the outcome for Crystal/Ishtaraa after Elaine talked to Jason? (Expect her to get sent to a Penal Colony and be rescued in some way by the Society)We know there were three daughters but nothing after Akantha was taken off to handle the breach birth. The assumption would be she and the children were fine since the story continued with Jason continuing to prepare the fleet with no mention of mourning or loss. The Nikomedes thing has become untenable. He keeps coming back like a bad penny. Obviously he will be back again since according to Persus “. . . legends are only fought, challenged, and killed by other legends”: and then . . . we have a bubbling regeneration tank.I want Jason to be a solid protagonist but, as written, he's beginning to fail the realism test. Even the most lovesick idiot wouldn’t continue to put up with the nonsense he takes from his wife and mother. As I said, I love the Series but would like it to hold together a little better.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another Solid Addition to the Series By Sparta There are a number of key threads in the book such as: (1) the Little Admiral dealing with his Tractoan cultural problem of challenges, (2) the repair and building of new ships, (3) minor combat scenes and fleet movements, (4) further pushing of the secret societies agendas, (5) and dealing with pulling together the old Middleton crew. There are a lot of threads that are being pulled on, which are spoilers and I won’t specifically comment. All-in-all, I enjoyed the story and the way the tale was pushed forward; but, the end result is this novel is a setup of the next book--for a number of ship-to-ship battles and political conclusions are on the immediate horizon.Like my multi-book series there are times you run into a book that tie past events with current and future events, more than action packed scenes that move to more action. This book is a more talk, explain and weave themes together than action driven. Some things were exciting and somethings didn’t sit well with me like the Akantha and Nikomedes interaction.Yes, I am eager for the next book.

Even though you may brush your teeth diligently and consistently every day you still have bacteria, viruses, bio-film and even worm-like creatures living in, on, and around your teeth? Between 30 billion and 100 billion "bugs" live in your mouth right this second--even if you just brushed your teeth. They are so resilient that even after a mere three hours from your ordinary brushing and flossing, the organisms can return--causing numerous health problems affecting more than just your mouth. These persistent organisms can cause not only periodontal disease, but may also contribute to other health problems including diabetes, heart disease, COPD, arthritis and even many cancers. So how can you begin to fight off these organisms taking over your mouth and health? Brushing, flossing and mouthwash are not enough. One reason is that everyone has different brushing habits and techniques. Some people miss the same spots repeatedly. Some brush too hard and damage the root structure. Some only spend seconds brushing their teeth, while others take more time to get the job done. Not to mention that the brush you use today is filled with the bacteria you brushed off yesterday! All these things add up to lackluster results and a mouth teeming with bacteria. In addition diet, age and how often you receive professional cleanings play a significant factor in the health of your teeth. In Never Brush Your Teeth Again you will learn: · ~ How bacteria, viruses and other organisms grow inside your mouth · ~ How periodontal disease affects your entire body and immune system · ~ How periodontal disease relates to heart disease, COPD, diabetes and even cancer · ~ How pharmaceutical companies make money from your dental issues · ~ Why two dental visits a year is not enough Healthcare has traditionally been blind to dental care. That's why, in the last 5,500 years, there have only been nine significant advances in the personal oral hygiene field. Now there is a tenth: Dental Air Force, which has taken one dentist almost two decades to now make available to the public. You can now have the opportunity to achieve a new level of hygiene for yourself and your family with this advanced and proven product.

From the Inside Flap To begin with, the toothbrush does not really help teeth as much as the local ads would like to have us believe. As a matter of fact, toothbrushes can even be harmful to our teeth. They often damage the tooth enamel, cause sensitivity ridges and do not remove the bacteria from between teeth very well at all. This little book gives you a massive amount of information about every aspect of what is going on inside our mouths. There are some very deadly diseases that are linked to our inadequate traditional style of brushing that allows bacteria to proliferate. The bacteria starts growing immediately after tooth brushing and keeps growing to the point that it affects our bodies, lowers our immune system and exacerbates serious diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, COPD or even cancers. This book contains information that is based on scientific dental testing and clinical international medical research. The detailed reference section includes the sources for all the publications and articles from which the information of the book is comprised. In addition, there is a large section of resources for additional reading. Thus, this book not only serves to provide information for immediate use, but goes the extra length to make sure that the reader can do their own personal research if desired and quench their thirst for more knowledge. The main objective of the book is to make its readers aware of the pitfalls that traditional tooth brushing can pose. It explains, in detail, how and why brushing can be harmful. Despite being taught to brush our teeth twice a day ever since we were children, this book brings out the hidden truth about tooth brushing. It not only makes us aware of how to defend our body against the harm caused by brushing, it also suggests an alternate way to keep our mouths healthy and clean. It does a wonderful job of guiding us towards the right way of taking care of our mouth. With each chapter of the book, one will find new information unfolding in front of them - information that you may never have known or that you never even thought existed. "The Zoo in Your Mouth" chapter tells us about all the bugs our mouth harbors and all the threats that might be present in a dormant state in the mouth. There is a chapter on the biofilm ecosystem and most importantly on periodontal disease. Other chapters describe the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic diseases that affect the entire body. The book gives us a very clear idea of all the existing threats to our body as well as to our immune system. The book is a life saver.  Studies show that tooth brushing can lead to serious abrasions on the tooth enamel. This is not just a statement - there is scientific proof.

This sounded absurd to me after having the idea that I have to brush twice a day ingrained since birth. However, Dr. P Piero does a wonderful job of explaining his research and rationale in his "Never Brush Your Teeth Again!". An oral health guide that could be life-changing to say the least, Piero takes a look at the persistent bacteria that remain even after brushing, what harm they can cause to your mouth and health in general, and what can be done about it. An eye-opening read to say the least that has changed the way that I look at oral hygiene.

By Heather G “Never Brush Your Teeth Again!” This is a title that will catch your attention, especially if you have as many tooth problems as I do. Add in the fact that this was written by a Dentist, P. Piero DDS – and it caught my money as well.I’ve known for a while that oral hygiene affects many things in your body, but I was unaware just how much! As a gateway to the body your teeth and gums matter. This book details a myriad of ways the bacteria in your mouth play with your health, from Heart Disease to Cancer and everything in between – and what to do about it. The biofilm that coats our entire mouth is the main culprit of these risks, and is the prime target we should be aiming to eliminate. Dr. Piero proposes a radical, and brilliant new method to eliminate this dangerous element, Dental Air Force.A mixture of air, water and dental cleaner all stored in a convenient and affordable machine the size of a toaster, this machine delivers powerful cleaning anytime of the day. Better than brushing and more effective that flossing – this is the wave of the future, one that just may keep you out of the Dentist’s chair, except for those routine cleanings.

Came with reservations, left with a smile By Barry Melius A prisoner turned talented cook looking forward to his release has an unlikely friendship with one of his guards. A stranded mermaid happens on this unlikely duo and the stage is set for a fetching little tale. This is the prequel to Ward's novella The Imposter due to be released June 16/05. Whimsy and fantasy are not my preferred reads(yuck!) but Ward tells this this in such a straight forward way that it charmed me into staying and even preordering the sequel. Promises a series with heart written by a talented wordsmith. Highly recommended.

Minalan The Moody! Meanwhile, back at the castle . . . Minalan the Spellmonger faces the boredom of house arrest after being confined to his lands by Prince Tavard for his defiance with the Wilderlands refugees. The Alka Alon have returned to their seclusion, dealing with their own crisis, the Dead God is being quiet within the Umbra, and Min’s plans toward re-establishing a functional Duchy of Alshar are progressing. Min sees his punishment as a unique opportunity to indulge in thaumaturgical research. When the Sevendor Magic Fair brings a tide of enchanters eager for snowstone, irionite, and opportunity to his door (as well as the newly-formed Arcane Knights of Nablus, the successors of the Censorate in Merwyn), Minalan uses his wealth and position to invite them to stay on in Sevendor over the winter and focus on the developing art of Enchantment. He forms the first Bouleuterion, a conclave of enchanters dedicated to producing and researching the creation of magical items, since the fall of the Magocracy. Such notable enchanters as Lanse of Bune, Taren, and Masters Andalnam and Cormoran arrive to help Minalan and his staff of experts push the frontiers of magical science as far as he can. Even Lorcus, Tyndal and Rondal help out. His secret mission is, of course, to fathom the complexities of the secret Snowflake of Sevendor, the enigmatic pseudo-molopor created from Minalan’s fevered subconscious . . . but not before they improve the lot of the peasantry by creating a wealth of labor-saving (and potentially socially revolutionary) devices. But enchanters and former Censors are not the only ones to arrive at the fair: Baron and Baroness Greenflower, Magelords Dunselen and Isily, come to Sevendor as well . . . and the results are explosive. Before they depart Minalan’s entire life is thrown into doubt. Especially when a new divinity appears to make him an offer the Spellmonger just can’t refuse. As Minalan works through his psychological issues by obsessively focusing on his craft, he must also nimbly maneuver his way around an inevitable war between Sendaria and Sashtalia, protect his vulnerable domains, deftly negotiate his course through the tangle of feudal law and obligation in the Bontal Vales, and contend with his troubled marriage. His frustration, guilt, and doubt are soon revealed to be authored by a secret plot against him. The return of an old enemy and the revelation of new foes challenges his position as head of the Arcane Orders and puts his entire family in jeopardy. Could it be that Is Minalan’s new eleven-year-old apprentice, Ruderal, the only one capable of seeing through the deceptions in time to save them all even as he struggles with his own guilt about his role in releasing Korbal the undead Demon God from his tomb? Or will their fates lie on the whims of a former lover who has ambitions of her own for Minalan? It’s hard for the Spellmonger to be forced to stay at home and quietly tend to his own business. But then Minalan never let such things impede his plans before . . . why would he now? With the Snowflake of Sevendor, a mighty cadre of powerful magi, some inspired vassals and the assistance of a few friendly gods, Minalan realizes that the only real way out of his personal mess may lie with an ancient intelligence of a long-extinct race . . . and his ability to become a master Enchanter!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Spellmonger got his mojo back! By B. Heikes I'd been a bit disappointed in the last Spellmonger book - but Mr. Mancour came back strong with Enchanter. Sure, there aren't as many fights as past books, but the arc of the story really has this book as a bridge between the wars -- where the sides step back and rearm for the next push. As such, this book is more focused on some of the other aspects of the Spellmonger's job. That's not saying there isn't a bit of knight errantry and castle toppling thrown in, but its more of a break between significant developments elsewhere in the story as opposed to the focus of the book.I can see there are significant opportunities for stories describing the side quests of the various characters -- the ex-apprentices going after the Brotherhood of the Rat will make an interesting read that I hope is released as a standalone or a short story soon.I enjoyed this book and am really looking forward to the next in the series given some of the twists in this one.

Wosicki I have only one complaint, and that is that we have to now wait another three or four months before we get the next installment!!!Don't get me wrong, this installment had it all, action, adventure, romance, magic, intrigue. A hell of a ride, so to speak. So much so that that by the end of the book, you are so caught-up in the development of the story arches, that when it ends, you immediately find yourself checking the author's blog for news on book eight's release date. For those of you new to the series, start with book one and supplement it with the short stories. They add a lot to of great detail to a number of the side stories.Over-all, this is one of the best "Fantasy/Magic" based series currently available.

Continues to build on the rest of the series By kouhoutek If you are a fan of the series, you will enjoy this book, although perhaps not so much as the others. It is definitely more of a transitional book, tying off some loose ends as the Spellmonger consolidates much of his power. Look for it to set up a more action packed successor. My biggest complain is even though there is a some suspense, much of the resolution is deux ex magica.

Everywhere you turn you hear it; To grow personally and professionally from networking you must have a follow-up plan. By Amazon Customer This was a valuable resource and tool that highlighted not only how to follow up and be a more effective in networking but also has become a tool for personal development. Reading between the lines it has shown how to dream forward and plan back in my own life and to share that experience to help others. Clear, concise and inspiring.

If you are only networking, you're not doing all you can By Rick Swanson As someone who has struggled with starting up new small businesses, I’ve spent a lot of time reading books and blogs about the importance of networking and finding leads. Soma Datta’s book, “Fearless Follow-up” stands apart, because she goes beyond merely finding leads and takes you down the path to conversion. She rightfully identifies that fear is an obstacle for many of us, and then provides a clear and concrete path out of the fear. I expected the book to be something of a thought exercise, but it’s much more practical than that, which both surprised me and pleased me. Don’t relegate this book to the shelf. It belongs on your desk, open, where you can see it every day, scribble in it, and let it prompt you to take action and follow-up fearlessly.
