1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A GROWLING GREAT READ !!! By jlswainsboro/Judy Lewis Wow! What another wonderful addition to the Smokejumper Werebears Series by Kim Fox. These are just the sweetest stories ever! Although this is a series, each novella can be read as a stand alone story with no cliffhanger but I would highly recommend reading them all. You'll never regret it! I fell in love with Kim's work a few months ago and I now eagerly await each new release so needless to say, like all of her other fans, I have been patiently waiting for the release of Matteo and Lani's book and it was well worth the wait! After reading the first three novellas of the series, it's quite obvious that Matteo is a larger than life character and for me, one of the most memorable. I knew his story would most likely be the most difficult and heartfelt narrative to date yet would also be the most powerful. And Kim knocked it out of the park! While reading this book, I think I experienced every single emotion possible. I felt anger, hurt, sadness, betrayal, sorrow and despair but I also felt joy, happiness and satisfaction as well. I was either smiling, howling with laughter, shaking my fist with anger or blubbering like a big baby throughout the entire book. If an author can offer her readers all this in one book, then she has done her job remarkably well. And that's exactly what Kim has accomplished with this story. It is exciting, humorous, heartbreaking, heartwarming, sweet, romantic and arousing but my favorite element of the entire series is the characters. The majority of the characters return for each story along with a few new additions and are always captivating, engaging, endearing and sexy as sin. The dialogue is written from dual alternating points of view from the two main characters featured in each book. Grizzly bear-shifter Matteo Brown is a smokejumper and member of the Hudson Crew. Ten years ago, his bear bonded with beautiful, curvaceous Lani Jacoby, the sister of his alpha, Beckett Jacoby. But his feelings weren't reciprocated and Lani left him and her entire family behind and never looked back. He's spent the last ten years of his miserable existence mourning the loss of his mate, picking up the pieces of his shattered heart, recovering from her rejection and trying to move on with his life. And just when he thinks he's finally found peace and has his bear under control, Lani returns to wreak havoc on his and everyone else's life as well. Lani has always been beautiful but she hasn't always been the rude, cruel, selfish woman she is today. When Lani was younger, she was smart, sweet and kind but something or someone has changed her and he cannot abide the woman she portrays today Logically, Matteo knows that Lani has a selfish ulterior motive for her sudden return but his heart and his bear doesn't seem to care. His bear still wants her and in his heart, he knows he still loves her. But why has she returned??? What does she want??? It certainly can't be him.... Or can it??? Hmmm....I wonder??? No spoilers from me but I will say this....Handsome, heartbroken grizzly bear-shifter who still longs for his mate-check! Beautiful, thoughtless, manipulative and self absorbed female bear shifter who refuses to acknowledge her bear-check! Drama, lies and an unthinkable act of betrayal -check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, heartbreaking angst, romance and steamy dreamy love scenes-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to read Keene's story in Book Five! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

Personally, I've been waiting to read Matteo's story because he is such a bada$$ bear shifter that's been pining for his longtime mate that doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. She left him ten years ago and never looked back! Her bear didn't bonded with his.Well, Lani's back and her attitude wreaks havoc on the crew. She is the selfish, beautiful cocky sister of the alpha of the crew. She's returned home with a purpose and is hiding her secret waiting for the perfect moment. When Connor, her cousin, drops her off, Matteo's world stops and his bear screams for its mate. Even with the pain that she had inflected on him, he still cares deeply for her. Will Lani leave Matteo devastated again or will she let herself find happiness and love? Myles I had nothing else to read and this series sounded interesting and it was on kindle unlimited, so I tried it. I really had nothing else to read, so I stuck through till book five when I got maybe 30% in and just said " I can't do this anymore." The characters are either really underdeveloped or really unlikeable or both. The author writes major character flaws into a person and then does not redeem them, but All Is Well in the end, it makes no sense. The stories would probably be a lot better if the author actually really thought about how real people would react when spoken to, treated or disregarded the way her characters do instead of everyone just turning the other cheek and then forgetting all about it in the endIn this book Lani was so hateful they would have kicked her out immediately. She blatantly insults the other women even saying she was glad to learn the second's mate was pregnant and not really just that fat, and these men who supposedly cherish and adore and protect women, didn't even say anything to her.
