But it's actually really hard to analyse just what it is that makes them, and what they have to say stand out in your mind. This book does the analysing for you, and offers basic advice on how you can replicate these skills. There is no way around it. To be a good public speaker it takes preparation, planning and practice. This book is a guide to organising the three p's effectively.

By Big Cal I love everything John Scalzi does... but I am pretty put off by this technique his publisher uses of publishing chapter length "books" in a series to get more money for what would normally be a single "normal size" book. It smacks of "fan manipulation" because that is who gets screwed over price wise... those of us who love John Scalzis work (and the man himself) can hardly wait to see his next project.... but it is then dribbled out to the public by his marketing team one chapter at a time... for what ends up being a ridiculously high cost for the "finish" book by the time you add up the many "mini" books that are really just chapters of a larger one.So... 5 stars for Mr. Scalzi.... minus 3 stars for his poor choice of marketing.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Appeteaser Instead of a Main Course By Nick Sanders The story is about a few Colonial Defense Force soldiers with a problem that bothers them. The Colonial Union is at war -- but the war is against member planets who want to leave the Union. The CU won't allow secession, so the political masters call in the soldiers to quell the incipient rebellions. The CDF soldiers are getting tired of fighting wars against their own kind, and starting to question the political decisions that have led them to this unpleasant and unwanted situation. As with the first two pieces of this four-part story, the writing is classic Scalzi -- fast and witty. And yet, I felt something was missing. The "climax" came too soon and it lacked build-up. The story whizzed by and ended rather abruptly. While it may have set up necessary things for the climactic fourth installment, I didn't see enough of those things to make me feel this was a equal peer to the first two episodes. I felt like there were a couple thousand words of plot and character development that were left out of this one.I wanted more.

What's fun is to see her evolution in thinking By Joseph Engle Continuing to follow the various cast from the Old Man's War series, the third installment focuses on a previous character, CDF soldier Heather Lee. What's fun is to see her evolution in thinking, questioning the role of the Colonial Union. As always, Scalzi provides well-defined characters, great writing, and some biting commentary.The previous two novellas focused on a new character (Rafe), but not an unknown; his ...ah... condition had been modeled previously. Hafte returns in the second novella, and now Lt. Lee. It'll be fun to see who is up next. One thing is for sure, Harry Wilson will be someplace in there.

It takes the fear and confusion out of all aspects of beginning their enterprise and walks the participant through each step necessary for their success. I have lived several years outside the USA in a developing country. Therefore, I can see the need and value of this book for indigenous peoples worldwide who desire to create their own business. Fortunately the international need is being met by the book's many translation. GrowBook is very readable and the steps are easy to follow. Mr Keller and his cohorts are to be thanked for developing an exceptional asset for aspiring entrepreneurs. I found GrowBook more practical than my MBA for beginning a small business.

This is a very easy to use and digest book to introspectively dissect a business and assess what is going well and what is not going well and make an action plan to move forward. Unlike most business books this one is short on theory and instead emphasizes the practical and useful steps (written from first hand experience) to grow a business. This book is full of applications and stories and is organized into short and concise chapters. Also, unlike most business books the Grow Book emphasizes the communal and spiritual impact unleashed by entrepreneurs from a biblical perspective.Thanks for putting this book together and translating it into additional languages!

I'm 36, but I have severe arthritis, chronic pain, and several other health issues that lead to my hands being very shaky. Also, when I have to concentrate on the very small designs in some other coloring books, it often gives me a headache. This book is one of only 2 or 3 "simple" coloring books for adults out there. But, really, the designs are not "simple" at all-the areas to color are a bit larger than most you find in adult coloring books. This would be good for anyone: adults who might prefer their coloring areas not be so intricate, those with arthritis or other health problems like me, older adults, and even, perhaps, adults with Alzheimers or bad eyesight. To the author: please, please think about doing more of this kind of coloring book! There is such a need for less intricate books like this. I've posted it to the RA website (there is a post that talks about coloring) and also recommended it to friends who are also registered nurses (as I once was) to use in their assisted living centers and nursing homes.

I purchased it for my 83 year old mother and now all her friends want a copy. The pictures are similar to other books in that the designs and subject matter are cute and appealing but there is more space between the lines and less intricate detail. I would highly recommend this to anyone but especially those with shaky hands or poor eyesight.

I thought having a book and colored pencils in the hospital would be relaxing. Well, the first book I picked up was not relaxing. I was mainly mandalas, and they were very full, complicated designs. When I was discharged from the hospital I came here to Amazon to search for coloring books. They all seemed too complicated, designs that would take weeks, even months to complete. I needed satisfaction of completion quicker than that. I typed in "adult coloring books simple design" and found this book. I'm so happy to complete these pictures! It's relaxing and satisfying. More books like these please! Thanks!

A must-read for anyone in sales By Casey Living Sales has never been my favorite area of business but it is, necessarily, a very large part of nearly any successful enterprise. I have been to my share of sales workshops and trainings over the years and many just concentrate on the same re-hashed sales tactics, over and over again. I loved author Donald Hatter's latest book, "10 Things Great Sales Leader Don't Do!" as it takes a look at some common mistakes in selling and gives the reader some clear direction for re-focusing on the things that matter when trying to get your products or services into the right hands. Very well written and a must-read for anyone involved in sales.

Just because you’re in that position doesn’t mean you always have the tools you need to succeed. Donald Hatter can help with that by offering sage advice on exactly how you can avoid blunders in your sales opportunities.I really like how this book was put together. I think this book sums it up--the "secrets." A list of what NOT to do is sometimes just as good to know as a list of what to do, and this book is a great example of that. This book is written well, and in a format that is accessible, clear, and to-the-point. By outlining 10 sales blunders and then elaborating on them, I think the author allowed me to gain more insight on how to be a better sales leader in just one book than all the information from other books of this sort that I've read. This book is definitely worth checking out.

When I found out that not only had she grown up and become a mom with children not much younger than mine, and that she was also writing YA fiction, I was intrigued enough to give that book a read. I was quite impressed by Amalie's skill in story telling. However, while the story line and characters of The Clay Lion drew me in and touched my heart, her writing was not quite "there" yet. The next book, Tin Men, showed that her imagination and story telling skills weren't just a one off thing, and her writing had improved. But when it comes to rating books (or restaurants), I don't give out 5 stars easily. I need to not just "really like" a book, or think that the author is a great person. Possibly, for integrity's sake, I held Amalie Jahn to an even higher standard. So it is with complete honesty that I can say A Straw Man deserves all 5 of those stars.As I have come to expect with Amalie's books, her characters are key. They are well-developed, they have heart, and their dialog is engaging. Through her fiction she is tackling another topic that is relevant to our time as she explores the effects of addiction.The use of time travel in these three novels is so well done! Who among us hasn't wondered about how we would possibly change something in the past? Or maybe wanted to relive a spectacular moment? But each novel serves as a cautionary tale that teaches the reader that it is truly best to live our lives in the present with an eye to the future.I don't want to give anything away that happens in this book because it all unfolds in a very non-linear way. I will say that I thought I had things figured out about half-way through the novel when I discovered a whole new level of creativity in the story that I never saw coming!I absolutely recommend A Straw Man, and look forward to the next series of books written by Amalie Jahn.

Engaging, Heartbreaking, Enlightening and Thought Provoking By Sherrie' Lucas Knowing that this was the last book in the Clay Lion series, I approached this book with trepidation. I knew I wouldn't want it to end. Amalie's books are so engaging and well written that each character becomes a friend, a part of your family. As they go though their adventures, their trials, their heartaches and their joys, you live them too. I am always left contemplating all that I've experienced along with them when I've reached the end. Melody and Nate are no different than Charlie and Brooke. Amalie's talent to have you feel them is amazing. The real life struggle of having to follow our own path, come what may, in some instances for the greater good touches the heart. Facing the reality of living with the consequences of our decisions and moving forward is a lesson well taught. I will forever miss Viki. Well done Amalie.

By Chloe A Straw Man is my third read by Amalie Jahn and as much as I loved the previous two, this one truly blew me away by the author's growth and polish. Not that the other two were not spectacular - both definitely deserved five stars - I just feel this one deserves six glowing stars.Jahn is a natural story teller with fleshed out characters whose dialogue is enticing enough that readers link to them almost immediately. No matter which subject matter Jahn broaches in her amazing series, she does it brilliantly with time travel, capturing fans of various ages, not just young adults. I read these books with my granddaughters, and both love them albeit one "gets it" before the philosophical depth sinks in with the other.Jahn's creativity continues to amaze me as she teaches us all that no matter how exciting time travel might be, consequences in returning to the past are daunting, thusly living for today and looking toward a greater tomorrow can prove just as exciting. As we read this final installment, we did not want an end to Jahn's Clay Lion series. One of my granddaughters had a mini-melt down, whining "Oh no! She has to write more!"All characters find a way into one's heart, teaching so much about life's decisions and how we must take responsibility.With my grandchildren getting ready for junior high, I pray they have the strength to continue making good decisions, and believe through this book, they will be able to help any friends who might cross over to this dangerous side of life. Addiction is tough for adults, but so often begins with youth, so this unique plot in A Straw Man was perfect timing for our household. College comes in the blink of an eye, and I can only hope this story is embedded into my grandchildren if this type of life lesson ever crosses their paths. One granddaughter is much like Melody and wants to remedy all situations (she is called the Peace Maker at school), but this novel had a profound impact on being cautious about how you go about 'fixing' other people's problems. Life follows a natural course, and I think she fully comprehended this via the words of this author.I am now reading the Prequel to this sensational series, but highly recommend every parent, grandparent, adolescent, and young adult read this series - especially A Straw Man. Even if you don't fancy time travel, there is so much underlying wisdom within these pages, you will grow and learn, no matter your age.
