This narrative is an oversimplification.Sex in China lifts the lid on what sex and sexuality is really like in China today, looking at: 21st century Chinese-style ‘forced marriage’ or the virtually universal nature of heterosexual marriage; sexual defiance in youth and celebrity culture; ‘don’t-ask-don’t-tell’ homosexuality; the growing albeit illegal sex trade; new approaches to governing sexual health and AIDS; and the rise of Chinese sex studies and ‘sexperts’.
