Both parents and educators wish the best for their children/ students By Karen A Carter As an elementary teacher, I feel that this is a valuable resource for both parents and schools. I have over twenty years of teaching experience, and have noticed an alarming rise in the amount of children being labeled as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and bipolar disorder. Both parents and educators wish the best for their children/ students. Unfortunately, too many well intentioned parents and teachers feel that medicine may be the best answer when a child is struggling. Mary Ammerman presents well-researched information about the five main types of brain arousal regulation problems which may result in one or more of the previously mentioned diagnoses. She then informs the reader of the many documented drawbacks of placing children on medication to "improve" children's behavior. Finally, she presents several great alternatives that have been studied and shown to produce positive changes in children's mood, attention, and social interactions. This is a must-read for any concerned parent and/ or teacher. I will definitely be recommending this book to several parents during my future parent/ teacher conferences
