As somebody who is always skeptical of electronically published novels (I’ve read a few incredibly bad ones written by friends) By skywise Assassin’s Quest, part one of the Royal Assassin series, by Jon Kiln follows the assassin with a heart of gold, Rothar, as he hunts down an apparent child killer at the behest of the King, a man who at first glance appears to be a simple seed merchant. The master assassin carries out his task readily enough, but in the process stumbles on to something much more sinister, resulting in an exciting adventure full of romance, swordplay, twists, turns and frequent beheadings as only Jon Kiln can craft.This is the second novel I’ve read by Jon Kiln. As somebody who is always skeptical of electronically published novels (I’ve read a few incredibly bad ones written by friends), Kiln is decidedly the exception. His stories are fun, fast-paced and exciting with character and style reminiscent of the old pulp magazines. It is a deceptively simple and compelling story of honor, loyalty and the age old story of Good versus Evil fits easily into the canon of high fantasy and adventure that leaves the reader wanting more.If you are a fan of other Jon Kiln novels, Assassin’s Quest will not disappoint. Like his other novels, Assassin’s Quest captures what makes Kiln an excellent writer for the Kindle format. His stories are divided into short vignettes that are quick to read and easy to digest, making them ideal for the reader looking for a quick read for their daily commute or, for somebody like me, who likes to read a bit before bed. Assassin’s Quest is a very enjoyable read.

If you are already familiar with Kiln's writing you can rest assured you will love this book too. If you aren't, this will quickly show you his incredible talent.Kiln knows how to bring his stories and characters to life without slowing the story down or distracting you, and his characters are always complex, fully developed, and relatable. You are drawn into his world almost immediately; the first pages let you know you are in for something great and it is hard to put down once you get started.I don't know how Kiln does it-managing to have all of his series' going without sacrificing quality. They are all well written, fun, and easy to read. Jon Kiln is an author you will definitely want to have on your reading list; he just keeps getting better and I am excited to see what he does next.

Too much character development is skimmed over or rushed. Many interesting side characters are introduced and killed off in short order. That said the story's pace is great. I was never tempted to jump ahead or skip to more interesting parts. The small moments were so well written and planned, that the big moments became a little predictable. So no mysteries to solve, and no hard questions to answer. Overall, it provides a pleasant escape.

Buy It for the Tank Battles, Love It for the Characters By Vivian Parker If you enjoy military science fiction, and if you want a quick read which nonetheless has a powerful impact, Armored Tears is the novel for you.The tank battles between the scrappy Arcadians and their looming adversary are exciting and intricate, in ways that show the author’s deep knowledge of the subject without seeming overly “stage managed.” War is a messy and bloody business, and the battles reflect that. And the setup which leads the reader to the battles is clever indeed.Still, there is little reason to care about even the most expertly-handled battle scenes unless the reader also cares about the people in the war machines. And, in Armored Tears, you will. At various times, Tara, Cal, Bernie, Aran, and the others will make you laugh, and cheer, and gasp in delight, and blink away tears.Mark Kalina writes in a lean but elegant style that suits the subject matter well. He provides technical details when necessary for the reader to understand the science (fiction), but has a knack for knowing when such details really are necessary and when they are not.The chance of your finding a better book for under three bucks is vanishingly small. Buy this one.

A Military Science Fiction/Military Fiction Homage Featuring the Virtues of Both Genres By English Prof "Armored Tears", despite a few minor editing issues, is a superb example of its genre. The best Military Science Fiction opens doors to an understanding of past/present/future through the unique perspective of a fictional construct with an almost ethereal sense of connectedness. The tank battles here on the surface of the planet are highly entertaining and reveal a thorough going understanding of modern armor tactics. At the same time, Mr. Kalina successfully brings in our modern qualms about supra national states through the agency of his UN and EU successor, with its mania for control manifested through Orwellian political correctness. At its best moments, this book will stand comparison with the best of its genre, and best of all, for all of its military technology (obviously rooted in solid understanding of the present state of our weaponry), the battle scenes and the decisions the characters make are all very grounded in a profound understanding of and sympathy for the human condition. Make no mistake, those of you more interested in straight military history and modern alternate histories marked by historical and technical understanding, will enjoy this as much or more than those simply looking for fiction set in fanciful off world settings. Overall, a moving and rousing good read!

This is not a 700 page technical manual trying to pass itself off as enjoyable sci-fi By Big Ben It seems to be a tricky balancing act that all too many authors fail at - describing their future with sufficient detail that's relatable to us in the here-and-now, without getting bogged down in technical minutia about how this star drive or that ray gun works.Mr. Kalina does not suffer such problems.This story is basically a series of tank battles set about seventy years in the future, with some cool exoskeleton-powered infantry action thrown in to spice things up.The fights and battles are well-choreographed and the pacing of the book is near perfect. This is not a seven hundred page technical manual trying to pass as enjoyable science fiction ... This is a hard-hitting military action story with a splash of futuristic weaponry tossed in.Oh, and star gates. Can't forget those.I gave it a five star rating for the the characters. This story has several POVs, but each one of them is distinct, well-written and relatable. There is a kick-ass heroine that the story keeps coming back to, but it's the supporting cast that carries the day.You cheer for the good guys, boo and hiss at the bad guys, but you get where they're all coming from.If you enjoy this book, try Freehold by Michael Z. Williamson.

She wasn't left with much and has been through the foster care system. Her world doesn't seem so hopeful for her. Claire is just trying to figure things out after all these years. But next thing you know, a magical horse just walks in. Yup, a magical horse thats ridden by a lovely Justin.Yeah so, how many of you would just go with this person? How many would think he needs visit to the nut house? Well, its all real. The magic, the king, the knights, and yes, even ghosts. But these ghosts can really hurt the living. In a way you probably didn't expect.Claire took a bit of convincing, and just as things seem okay, a ghost decided to go after her. Why not? So she needs Justin and his skills to help her with this ghost problem. She is very good at this Spirit Knight stuff. No reason a girl can't be something. That even includes being a Knight. Not only can we do things better and teach these knight a thing or two, but we can look good doing it.Claire has the will to be a knight and she fits right into this world. Her idea of life is starting to become hopeful. She isn't lost anymore. She has a place to belong and her life has meaning again.An amazing read for anyone. A book that needs to be read and is surely to make your favorites list of the year!

Breaking Rules and Boundaries: Girl Who CAN Be a Knight By Rachel Barnard “There’s no law that says a girl can’t be a Knight.” (Page 250).Claire doesn’t let bullies get her down, she fights back. On school grounds fighting is cause for suspension, but that didn’t stop her from beating up the bully. She will probably be known for beating up a guy, but she won’t know because she’s not allowed to go back to school until her suspension is over. In the meantime, Claire is suddenly a target of all the neighborhood animals and at her wits end when a cat tries to claw off her face Justin arrives. He is a Knight. Literally. A knight. But he’s happily married with children, still, he must protect Claire from forces she never knew existed.The juxtaposition of Justin’s viewpoint and thoughts and Claire’s perspective and thoughts gives the book a rich variety in flavor as the two characters are very different. Justin is a young father of two girls. He only learned to be a father through a mentor and sometimes doesn’t always understand Claire. He wants to protect Claire and doesn’t mind killing Ur-phasms, hitting innocent people over the head, or stealing hats. Claire, on the other hand, doesn’t think too hard before taking action, is out to protect herself even when she isn’t always able, and follows the law until it would lead to her harm. She also doesn’t always understand Justin.Claire fights at school and sticks up for herself, even when it gets her in trouble, yet when she’s faced with real problems and life or death fights, she wishes her knight would save her. After the first few times when he doesn’t immediately come to save her, she realizes she still must rely on herself to get out of the sticky situation, but still, her plans don’t always work out. Finally the knight saves her, but through her struggles to figure out what really happened to her father and what the heck a Spirit Knight is, she will learn that she actually can save herself.Kids bully Claire at school. Adults tell her what to do and what not to do. The system dictates where she lives and who she lives with. And everyone who knows about the Knights tells her that Girls Can’t Be Knights. Every time. Sometimes they say it incredulously, because it’s never happened before while sometimes they say it disdainfully because they can’t comprehend a change in the familiar, a girl knight. Claire is convinced that she can be a knight and is glad to have been chosen. It gives her life a purpose.Overall the story was interesting and fun to read while speeding along at a rapid pace. The concepts French introduced were intriguing and I loved her play on gender. If there is a second book I would love to see more on how the only girl who is a knight fits into a world of male knights.

One twist after another brought it to a wonderful end that wrapped up all the story elements, but left it open for an interesting future for the characters. I want to see what happens to them later, but it was a wonderful stand alone story. I like when a story makes me forget the world around me for a little bit and this one did that. Any writer that can do that wins. Girls can't be knights? Wanna bet! We sure can.

Tesla has matured a great deal from the teen who went to a party in GLIMPSE. In BREATHE she's a skilled fighter, clever strategist, and careful analyst of both opportunities and challenges in the parallel worlds she inhabits. She has also moved into a potentially serious romantic relationship. The discussions among Tesla and her friends about time travel and the confusions between past, present, and future timelines keep readers informed and intrigued with the concept of time travel. The ending allows for the possibility of still another book covering Tesla's future. Readers who like their suspense laced with science and well-developed characters will enjoy BREATHE..

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I am actually sad that the trilogy is over with this book By Devon Anderson I am actually sad that the trilogy is over with this book. I have grown to really love and understand the characters and what they stand for in this novel. I have so many pages dog-eared from quotes that I like that my book looks well-loved, just from the first read. The language in the book carried me across pages without me feeling as if any time had passed. Julie Drew uses words in such a beautiful way, really. I loved the pacing and was surprised in many scenes by the events I did not see coming. Of the three books in the series, this one is my favorite. My daughter can't wait to be old enough to read them, but at only seven years old, she's got time; they will be waiting for her, and her sisters, on the shelf. I recommend all three in the series to anyone! A great read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I absolutely love this book By Rebecca Webb I absolutely love this book. I use it everyday especially in the winter season. My only complaint is that it is hard to find certain things sometimes in the book and that it doesn't have a specific section on babies and small children. But I highly recommend it as something to for sure have on hand for emergencies because you know someone you love is going to get sick or hurt and there is not going to be help immediately on hand. I think Claudia was very inspired when she put this book together.

It is a wealth of knowledge for my family. She lists the most important nutrients you and your family should be taking to be healthy, what you should be storing, and lists every illness in alphabetical order and solutions for those illnesses. She also talks about all the nutrients, vitamins, oils, and emergency preparedness tools she recommends, and what you would use them for. Every household should own one of these!

Claudia has done so much research to determine the key items we should have on hand in emergencies to care for ourselves and our families health. This is a must have for those who are serious about being prepared in any circumstance. I love how she emphasizes that we need to be responsible for our own health. It is well worth the price. Several of my friends have purchased this book as well!

The author just jumps you right into the action and story. Taurus is a complex character that goes thru ALOT of changes and experiences.
