People cope with threats to their identities in many different ways. Until the original publication of this title in 1986, there had been no theoretical framework within which to analyse their strategies for doing this, or to examine the nature and impact of the threatening experiences themselves. In this elegant and original book, Glynis Breakwell proposes an integrative model which explores the structure of identity and the principles directing its development.

Focusing on examples of threat such as unemployment, sexually atypical employment and ethnic marginality, Breakwell examines the relation of the individual to social change. Through her sensitive use of case studies, she enables the victims of threat to speak for themselves about their experiences and feelings. Their reactions illustrate her proposed framework of three levels of coping strategies – intra-psychic, interpersonal and intergroup – and her assessment of the factors which limit the success of such strategies. The case studies also point to new evidence on the effects of unemployment and the impact of youth training schemes at the time.

This title would have been essential reading for a range of undergraduate courses in social and abnormal psychology and individual differences, as well as for postgraduate training in clinical and medical psychology at the time. This is a brilliantly written book that presents a well-integrated view of identity, situated within social arena, yet uniquely personal. It then focuses on the nature of identity threats and outlines copying strategies on intra-psychic, interpersonal, and intergroup levels. Case studies of unemployment and atypical employment (e.g., a woman doing a man's job) are used to demonstrate the points. I wish I read this book earlier in my career for a better understanding of complex socio-pschycological processes.

Acupuncture is such an amazing and powerful healing modality but it isn't always easy to run an acupuncture business. A great practitioner does not always mean they are a great business person. It takes hard work, dedication, time and passion for healing to make it be a success. I think this book is also a great read for successful practitioners to see how far they have come and to be humbled at the experience. It was an honor to be interviewed for this book and I hope it inspires :)

From the Author Hi,I'm super excited to be releasing my third full length fantasy romance. I love writing about elves, witches, and monsters. Add in some sword fights, evil queens, and lots of romance and it's my favorite kind of story that combines my two favorite genres--romance and fantasy, of course!When I published The Dark Huntsman, my first fantasy romance, I already had Prince by Blood and Bone, book two, well underway. And I knew a little bit about what needed to happen in book three. But I didn't have much of an idea. And I thought that was going to be it. Three cousins, three books. I knew the ending of the series too. But, when your a writer, sometimes things change.I knew the queen would have to have something big happen to her in the end. Death was my choice. This is Cassie and Bosco's story. Bosco is sent on a mission to find the human woman that is the BLACK QUEEN'S mirror. Who is being held and used to find out what the Prince is up to and to see where and when he is going to attack. As he enters the castle he meets Cassie a beautiful yet fragile princess, who is also Fae. He is intrigued but also a little leery about this beautiful creature . He decides to use her to gain access to the party . That is where things get more complicated and a lot more interesting . They both realize that they need each other and will help each other out even if it means loosing each other in the process. Jessica weaves such a fantasy that will take you away and sweep you up into the story. Her characters as complex and you can't help but fall in love with them. Cassie is the physic of the MacElvy clan. She is a very strong woman that is also fragile side to her. She is sweet and vulnerable but she also has this side that is hidden. The kick ass, take no prisoner side which comes out when she is with Bosco. You can't help but not fall in love with her as you read this book . At first you want to wrap her up and keep her safe but as the story progresses you will be cheering for her as she kicks some ass . Now Bosco you can't help but fall in love with him . He is the Queen's fool but there is so much more to him. He is a tortured soul that wants to get enough power to save his sister . He is a womanizer and you kind of want to slap him at the beginning . He is such a cad . But when he meets Cassie, you can slowly see him change. He is torn between duty to his sister and the love that he is feeling for Cassie. You see him change into a man with honor and who is in love . The supporting cast is back also Haddon is as evil as ever and the Black Queen is well lets just say she is off her rocker in this book. Jessica takes us on a great adventure with twists and turns. Underhill is full of fae good and bad . There are trolls and other magical creatures. There are heroes and heroines, mystery and adventure. There is also some nice hot romance right in the middle of all the adventure . I mean there is always time for romance . The way that Jessica writes you expect a unicorn to walk through the pages . You will laugh and cry and laugh some more. You will shake your kindle and call Bosco a few bad names . You will want to hang Haddon from the rafters by his toe nails . But over all you will enjoy this and the other books in the series . There are a mixture of fantasy and romance that will have you being whisked off to Underhill and falling in love, A great addition to your summer reading list

I was not compensated monetarily for my review.I really enjoyed this book, and I think that it is better than the Dark Huntsman (Book 1 in the series). This book can be termed a fantasy book because the fantasy elements are very strong and integral to the book, but it is also a paranormal/fantasy romance because there is a romance between the 2 main characters with steamy scenes. There are faeries/elves, witches, lots of magic, illusions, and a lot of the book takes place in Underhill. The two main characters were likeable and complex enough to keep me very interested. I loved the spying aspect of this book: Bosco is undercover in the Faerie Black Court spying on the evil queen. The author is very good at writing both action sequences and steamy scenes. Bosco has some complicated and conflicting motivations that added nice depth to the book. I also like how this series has different books showing some of the same events from different perspectives.I think it would be totally fine if this was the first book in the series that you read. I would give this book 4.5 stars if I could because of a few brief awkward parts, but I will round it up to 5 stars.

Five Star Fairy Tale By Chris I loved fairy tales growing up and the wonderful thing with Jessica Aspen's series Tales of the Black Court is that I can still read them without feeling guilty. As well as twisting the traditional tales Jessica Aspen manages to throw in some steamy scenes that flow seamlessly into the story and I'm never going to be able to read the old stories without thinking of this series that should be called Grimm's fairy tales for grownups, so grab your comfy chair and sit down because once you start you won't be able to put it down until you've finished. The characters are real and you feel with them, Cassie's sass and spunk that even magic couldn't hide and Bosco's emotions that he thought he'd lost are magically bought to life, only problem is now I can't wait for the next instalment.I received a free copy for an honest review

I was captivated byher Queen's Blade series and decided to give this series a shot as well.. Loved it just as much.. hard to put down.. My only complaint is that this is NOT the last book.. I hate reading and reading and reading a massive set of books in a series only to find that I'm left hanging while waiting for the next one to come out. Had I known that this was not a completed series yet, I would have waited to start reading it. It's still an excellent read but I hate the wait.. Oh, and for future reference for Ms. Southwell.. In the front of your books in the 'table of contents' would you please start adding the chapters? so if I switch devices when my battery runs down on one and I know what chapter I'm on, I can quickly find it in the table of contents and 'go there' on my backup device.

By Blaine Parker Daniel Taylor is a no-BS, regular guy who lays it out for you--something that I was missing when I was doing the college thing. Granted, I wasn't using "College Loans For Drinking," as mentioned in the first chapter. (Nor was I using them to pay for a BMW, an absurdity that was one of the first things I remember the university president mentioning in his address to freshman and their families as part of a cautionary tale about financing an education.) But as a teen and then 20-something, I was ignorant about how to lead a better than hand-to-mouth existence. I assumed investing was for other people who made more money than I did. Taylor exhorts you not to be "a sucker who pays real money for a virtual gain" like crushing candy. He illustrates the power of investing in an attainable way that makes sense. And he hammers at you on the folly of credit card debt.The problem today is that we've all been lulled into the complacency that comes with easy credit. Credit card companies are letting us pull the wool over our own eyes. This book shows you how to pull it back, and shows you a better, attainable way to live richly by having a debt-free mind. There is tremendous power in that.
