Delightful parodies but needs active TOC By vbh48 This book is a delightful collection of letters and emails that could have been written to, by, or about a number of authors and some of the characters they created.I especially loved the letters to the editor of the Ladies Home Journal regarding a controversial article written by Ayn Rand; Ayn Rand's letter to Stanley Kubrick; Mark Twain's correspondence with his editor and a lawyer regarding a con man's attempt to involve the author in promoting his suspicious elixir; and Franz Kafka's letter to his overbearing father who ruined Franz's early dreams of becoming a ventriloquist.Another of my favorite parodies was the Charles Dickens' correspondence. We have email, Facebook, and twitter to help us procrastinate from and avoid getting down to our daily work. Dickens writes ten letters (to his wife, fans, friends, publishers, and ghost writers) before breakfast.From Hemingway, to Shakespeare, to Proust, to Wilde, the concept of the fake letters is inspired and the delivery hilarious.About the book's formatting: It's swell that "Enhanced Typesetting is Enabled" and the book has a listing of its "chapters". But how can you find the letters you love most and want to read aloud to your friends? Digital books can (and should) have ACTIVE tables of contents. Five stars for the book. The author manages to co-mingle current pop culture into the lifestyles of the greatest authors of all time, such as Jane Austen's vocabulary after a summer at the Jersey shore. Even if you're not familiar with every author mentioned, the writing and absurdity of the letters is genius. (Literature snobs - enjoy!)

By TJ This case review book was a purchase intended to study GU cases for the ABR Diagnostic Radiology recertification exam, and was well worth it.PROS: 1. The image quality was excellent, including very high quality CT and MRI images for a vast majority of the cases. There were a small number of cases with IVP and ultrasound images as well. 2. A very thorough discussion followed each case, which included a review of findings, background information on the disease process, and management issues. This was very valuable current information.CONS: 1. The organization of the content is in the usual Case Review Series style - it's separated into 3 sections based on level of difficulty. This may not appeal to all readers, since some performing a case review may wish to focus on a particular set of pathologic processes (i.e. tumors, vascular disorders, infections, etc.) which would be more time consuming to pull out of a book like this. The cases presented were randomized cases based on difficulty (which can be a somewhat subjective ranking), not based on topic. 2. There was a mild degree of redundancy of some content. 3. The question and answer format for some portions was "chose all that apply" format, which can be tedious and is different than typical question formats (personal preference applies). I would consider these minor issues, and should not dissuade someone from purchasing the book, but instead align expectations with some of it's limitations.OVERALL RATING: I would consider this book a "must read" for anyone preparing for their ABR Exam.

About the Author Margaret Weis began her collaboration with Tracy Hickman on the Dragonlance® series more than sixteen years ago, and a decade and a half later she is the author of numerous Dragonlance novels, the four-volume galactic fantasy Star of the Guardian, and co-author with Don Perrin of The Doom Brigade, Draconian Measures, Knights of the Black Earth, Robot Blues, Hung Out, and Brothers in Arms. She lives in southern Wisconsin.Tracy Hickman started at TSR as a game designer where he helped conceive of the world that became the Dragonlance campaign setting. He has written, in collaboration with Margaret Weis, the Dragonlance novels, the Darksword series, and the Death Gate Cycle. He is the designer of the game setting Starshield and the author of The Immortals. He lives in Utah with his wife, two daughters, and two sons.

If you read Dragons of Autum Twilight, the first book in the series, you might have said "eh...whats the big deal with these books and why have they made so many?" Well my friend by the time you finish chapter seven of this book you will know. After chapter seven every chapter becomes an earth shattering, wild riding, can't put it down, good read!After this book I went out and bought 40+ more of the Dragonlance Books! Read it today!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyed it a lot By JMotts I haven't read these books since high school, more than ten years ago. I wanted to re-read them as I was feeling nostalgic. After re-reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight I was a little concerned that the book was not living up to the memory I had of it. Autumn Twilight was fun but the writing quality wasn't quite what I remembered and the story, while it had some good moments, lacked a really epic scope. Still, I understood it had to set up all the characters so I was more optimistic for this second book.Dragons of Winter's Night did not disappoint. It really picked up the action and the story became much richer and more fast-paced. The dialogue and charaterizations become much more realistic and the varied locales and new characters and races help make the story much more epic than the first book.The companions are given more depth and dimension. Tanis is a good example of more complicated character, but Laurana becomes a much richer character also, since her part in book one was somewhat shallow. And Sturm's storyline and trials to become an actual Knight gripped me much more now than they did years ago. That was what really sold me on Weis and Hickman's improved writing, in that they were able to make Sturm more than just a one-dimensional chivalrous knight and gave him a deep soul. It was easier to understand his motivations in condemning the petty divisions in the knighthood, even though he knew it will keep him from ever becoming a knight, which was his life's dream. I also liked Sir Gunthar Uth Wistan and how he handled the political infighting within the Knights of Solamnia and his support of Sturm, how even though he used Sturm he still genuinely cared for him.Tas is amusing, as other readers have pointed out, although I'm glad they kept the Gnomes to a minimum. A little of them go a long way.All in all, this book was as good as I had hoped it to be. I really enjoyed it after all these years and recommend it to any curious reader.

12 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Awesome Book- Dragons of Winters Night By Jellomancer Tanis, Flint, Tass, Sturm, Caramon, Raistlin, and the rest are back. Tanis' part must recover the Great Dragon Orbs and Dragon Lance. If they fail to recover these relics, all hope of fighting the Dragon Armies will be lost.This book is marvelous. It combines humor, love, action, mystery, and suspense to create a perfect novel. For an example of a little humor, When there is no hope of escape from captivity; Tass is stealing things and cracking funny jokes about the guards and such, as they are being taken to the dungeons.This book is good because it is long, but never boring. This book is a book that you never want to end. Unlike other book it does not progressively get better, it is perfect all the way through! At the beginning when you normaly are getting to know the setting and characters, it jumps you right into a little action and suspense.I recommend this book to everyone! It is the second book in the Chronicles trilogy so I recommend you read Dragons of Autumn Twilight first.

Nitpicking By atmvyo Started off slow, but the second half of the book definitely made up for it.A thing that bugged me was that there didn't seem to be a recharge period. It seems like Max is constantly wary, constantly pondering, constantly being bombarded with new information. Ohh and he never seems to have any time to farm.I just wish there would be a time skip and then a summary explaining the stuff that happened in the meantime.Also the battle scenes are a bit dry with a lot of vague language; things like: ohh someone got killed, someone screamed, a number of people got killed, etc. It just doesn't make the battle exciting. I want to know what the enemy is thinking and what the allies are thinking. I want to see a better picture of the troops. For example, 300 mages, 1000 swordsmen, 200 knights etc. I want to see some really tough opponents among the random trash be highlighted. But I understand that this is first person point of view novel, I just think even from a first person point of view the novel could still have more clear and precise language, and not vague unclear language that just skims through the battles.It would also be awesome to see what the effects of Max's skills are on other people.I would also love to see a map of AlterWorld. Also, are there like local monarchs or is there any government at all in AlterWorld. These things are just very vague.It would also be cool to see Max's stats and skills and how much damage they do. For example, when he buffed up to 19000hp, i can't even figure out if it's a lot or not because I don't know how much damage he takes from attacks. And even during battle we aren't aware of how much damage he takes and what skills the opponents use.I usually don't like first person point of view novels, but this story is just so interesting. But I still think it would be much better if it was in third person.Anyway, the story is really awesome!!! But a lot of the things are very vague and there doesn't seem to be any order to things. For example, even the clan specifics are unknown. I would love to know how many people total they have, what are the other titles besides the guild master Max. The necessary specific of the clan, the cities, the clusters etc., are unspecified. for example what are the top clans within the city, cluster, and Alterworld? Where does Children of the Dark rank? How does Children of the Dark compare to other clans? Who is the top ranked player in the cluster? What's his level? How does Max compare to him?It just seems the author throws in a lot of information that has no meaning because there isn't anything to compare it to. For example, A million gold means nothing if we don't know how much gold it takes to buy anything. We don;t know if that's a lot or that's not enough because we don't have anything to compare it too. Same things go for Max's equipment and stats because we don't get the average equipment of the people or the average of their stats.The story and the progress is the best, which is why I gave it 5 stars, but the story lacks details and crucial norms and standards that could make it 100x better.I would love to see something like, "The Russian cluster has x number of cities, x number of citizens, average level etc." Those things are what makes the clans and characters stand out from everyone else.

Scott the best book in the series, by far. i loved the first three books in this series. but this one took it up a notch. ive read 1000,s of books in my life. this book is in my all time top 5. the world building, the characters, the action are all great. even if you never played a video game in your life, you should get this series. i wish i could give it 6 *

LitRPG is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. I hope to see more Play to Live books as well as more authors putting forth their own works.I do hope the books slow down a little with the protagonists leaps in power. At this point he needs to even out a little or his struggles become meaningless as he already seem to be breezing through one conflict after another.If you enjoy the series, I encourage you to donate so we can get the books translated faster.

The information in this book would be great to know while still in your early 20's. It's also great for people who may think they are the only ones suffering financial setbacks. It's awesome to have someone who actually educates you on what should be done versus making you feel terrible. This book was very uplifting and educational.
