Philip Haldane and his sister lived in a little red-roofed house in a little red-roofed town. They had a little garden and a little balcony, and a little stable with a little pony in it—and a little cart for the pony to draw; a little canary hung in a little cage in the little bow-window, and the neat little servant kept everything as bright and clean as a little new pin. Philip had no one but his sister, and she had no one but Philip. Their parents were dead, and Helen, who was twenty years older than Philip and was really his half-sister, was all the mother he had ever known. And he had never envied other boys their mothers, because Helen was so kind and clever and dear. She gave up almost all her time to him; she taught him all the lessons he learned; she played with him, inventing the most wonderful new games and adventures. So that every morning when Philip woke he knew that he was waking to a new day of joyous and interesting happenings. And this went on till Philip was ten years old, and he had no least shadow of a doubt that it would go on for ever. The beginning of the change came one day when he and Helen had gone for a picnic to the wood where the waterfall was, and as they were driving back behind the stout old pony, who was so good and quiet that Philip was allowed to drive it. They were coming up the last lane before the turning where their house was, and Helen said: 'To-morrow we'll weed the aster bed and have tea in the garden.' 'Jolly,' said Philip, and they turned the corner and came in sight of their white little garden gate. And a man was coming out of it—a man who was not one of the friends they both knew. He turned and came to meet them. Helen put her hand on the reins—a thing which she had always taught Philip was never done—and the pony stopped. The man, who was, as Philip put it to himself, 'tall and tweedy,' came across in front of the pony's nose and stood close by the wheel on the side where Helen sat. She shook hands with him, and said, 'How do you do?' in quite the usual way. But after that they whispered. Whispered! And Philip knew how rude it is to whisper, because Helen had often told him this. He heard one or two words, 'at last,' and 'over now,' and 'this evening, then.' After that Helen said, 'This is my brother Philip,' and the man shook hands with him—across Helen, another thing which Philip knew was not manners, and said, 'I hope we shall be the best of friends.' Pip said, 'How do you do?' because that is the polite thing to say. But inside himself he said, 'I don't want to be friends with you.' Then the man took off his hat and walked away, and Philip and his sister went home. She seemed different, somehow, and he was sent to bed a little earlier than usual, but he could not go to sleep for a long time, because he heard the front-door bell ring and afterwards a man's voice and Helen's going on and on in the little drawing-room under the room which was his bedroom. He went to sleep at last, and when he woke up in the morning it was raining, and the sky was grey and miserable. He lost his collar-stud, he tore one of his stockings as he pulled it on, he pinched his finger in the door, and he dropped his tooth-mug, with water in it too, and the mug was broken and the water went into his boots. There are mornings, you know, when things happen like that. This was one of them. Then he went down to breakfast, which tasted not quite so nice as usual. He was late, of course. The bacon fat was growing grey with waiting for him, as Helen said, in the cheerful voice that had always said all the things he liked best to hear. But Philip didn't smile. It did not seem the sort of morning for smiling, and the grey rain beat against the window. After breakfast Helen said, 'Tea in the garden is indefinitely postponed, and it's too wet for lessons.'

The country in the library By Chrijeff 10-year-old Philip Haldane doesn't remember his parents, but he has something almost as good: his half-sister Helen, 20 years older, who has raised him, home-schooled him, and thought up many wonderful games to play. He is "my Pippin," "my boy of boys," and he can't imagine any better life than the one they have in their little red-roofed house. Then Helen meets a former beau who has recently lost his wife, and before Philip quite knows what's happening, they're engaged. Not surprisingly, Philip's not eager to share her with anyone--or to be friends with his new brother-in-law's daughter, Lucy, who's about his own age. So, when the happy couple go off to the Continent for their honeymoon, he has to find a way to keep himself occupied--and so he does, by constructing a city of books, candlesticks, toy bricks, dominoes, and anything else he can find on the library table. But the city turns out to have a life of its own--not to mention inhabitants who decide that Philip is to be the Deliverer of their country, which demands that he attempt the accomplishment of the seven great deeds." And so he and Lucy set out on a long adventure through lands far and near.This lesser-known book by the beloved author of the "Five Children" and "Treasure-Seekers" series is the first one I've read that has a flavor very similar to that of L. Frank Baum's Oz, and youngsters who've enjoyed that famous land are sure to like it. Nesbit's imagination is unbounded and Philip and Lucy are real children--not paragons--who gradually learn to understand and like each other and work together to carry out their labors.

Tkacz This fine children's book is valuable one's whole life long, for its wit and wisdom and sheer charm. Be aware that in this edition the illustrations have been shrunk to one quarter their original size. Unfortunately that loses the marvelous details of the originals.

I never thought of that before this book. This can be used in all facets of life with top results, what ever the goal is. This book helps readers not only dream dreams, but be specific about them when writing them down and to put a time line on them. It truly helps you achieve goals and get your circle of friends to help you be accountable, because if you know that someone is watching you, then you are less likely to slack off.I really learned a lot and highly recommend this book for every day life in most any situation. It teaches that situations happen to all of us, but we have to use the correct measures to successfully get through and we will if we don't give up. This writer is brilliant in all of his books. I have never read a book so specific on goal achievement and accountability, ending procrastination and building responsibility. This book is also a great time saver, so we don't have to make the same mistakes over and over again. We can even learn from the mistakes of others before we make them ourselves. This book helps readers on such a positive level, without lecturing them. Now I know how to be even more accountable and responsible for my actions and success than I ever was before. This book takes readers out of the victim mentality to victorious. No more blame game. I could not have written this better myself. Powerful Accountability Strategies to Achieve Your Dreams & Goals By Teri Hanna Steve Scott gives you everything you need to achieve more by using the 7 accountability strategies in The Accountability Manifesto. This book identifies 7 accountability strategies with guided steps to be successful, qualities to seek in mentors, how to maximize time with mentors, how to get started, picking great tools to aid you in your quest, 12 qualities of a good coach, 7 steps for creating dynamic masterminds. Scott marks a clear path of accountability to realizing your goals along with real life examples. He sprinkles in citations of research studies showing why a strategy is effective. One idea is to use "implementation intention" with "If-Then," scenarios to improve your success rates. Another effective method is to use "public deadlines" as Scott cites from a research journal, Psychological Science. He also gives recommended apps for improving accountability- that even connect to a coach or nutritionist. One thing I learned was to use "Accountabuddies," with a 5 step plan to effectively achieve all that you desire. I highly recommend this book, The Accountability Manifesto to anyone who wants to reach for the stars-Steve Scott will show you the fastest way to get there!

Earlier this year I joined a self-publishing group and within that group each member had to be paired up with an accountability partner. I had never had a "partner" for anything before. It turned out that it was the best experience of joining the group. As Steve Scott [S.J. SCOTT] describes in his new book "The Accountability Manifesto" the people you spend the most time with will make or break your success.This book wastes no time in getting into the most important principle taken right from Jack Canfield's "67 Success Principles": TAKE 100% PERCENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LIFE. It is the perfect principle to begin with setting up readers/students for learning about this topic. In fact, Steve explains this principle so well that the price of this book is worth it just for the first chapter. Take 100% responsibility for your life.What I liked about this book:— clear, actionable steps you can do right away;— A structure that is easy to follow and read— Each chapter builds on the one before it— Quality research and experience backed up with solid writing— A definite book geared towards getting goals accomplished, and it shows you how with a partnerThis book has some great links to accountability apps you can sign up for depending on what you need an accountability partner for. You can also find a virtual group such as a FB group and connect with people who have like interests. I really like the idea of the accountabuddy and how it can help you to strive for and complete goals together. As Steve points out, an accountabuddy can help you in a wide variety of areas for whatever challenges you are both facing. The book shows you how to get started with an accountabuddy and the advantages/disadvantages that you'll have.If interested in setting up your own Mastermind group, the material gets into how to do that, the kind of people you want to set up your group with, and the structure of your Mastermind group. It also gets into how to structure a Mastermind meeting with your members.For coaching, the next section gives a great strategy for finding a coach that suits your interests, understands your vision, and helps you to organize a plan for your goals and/or life. There is also a list of questions [interview] you can ask a potential coach before hiring or agreeing to someone.My favourite section of this book was on the mentor relationship. Steve discusses the difference between mentoring, coaching and accountability; as well there are similarities that tie these three aspects together. I like the mentoring process described here because it is described as something that is relationship based, set for the longer term, and focuses on personal development rather than achievement. Steve also gives some great tips on how to find a mentor by following eight steps.Finally, the book wraps up really nicely with an extended conclusion that ties in all the main points discussed. The author focuses here on how to add accountability to your goals, and what to do when it fails.The accountability manifesto is concise, thorough and has enough actionable information that you can find your accountabuddy, coach, or mentor to help you through your goals, challenges and trouble spots. Whether you are thinking of joining a Mastermind group, or starting on yourself, you can take the lessons from here and apply it to your pursuits.

Beginner scopers and veteran scopers will be better scopers after they read this book/guide By Amazon Customer I first found Kristi on Periscope and was in awe of her energy and presence that she shared with all of us, her viewers. She inspired me to do my first scope and I have been scoping since. So when I heard she was writing a book about Periscope I knew I had to read it. She guides you from the very beginning, from setting up your account, to teaching you what to do with your scopes when you are finished. She also teaches you how to participate, how to set you up your first of many scopes, and what the meaning of all those hearts are and why they are a good thing. Kristi really wrote the book with with all scopers in mind, beginner scopers and veteran scopers will be better scopers after they read this book/guide. I highly recommend this book if you are wanting to start scoping and are too scared to hit broadcast, you will have the confidence you need to have a successful scoping journey.I was given a copy of this book for free to review. This review is my honest opinion of "The Scoop on Scope"

Now, when I got about 2/3 of the way through, I was thinking how nice it would be to have a checklist of the tips, so I was delighted to see the tips recapped in list form at the very end of the book. Although I hoped for more "use this not that" technical, equipment type tips, I still found every bit of this reference relevant and useful. As the title implies, this book speaks to bloggers and those experienced on social media. I especially appreciated the section on internet security as well as the super smart follow-up ideas. Again, Kristi is THOROUGH in this book: she tells you what to do before, during, and after your scopes!

Great Success followed from my work with this book and Kathleen By Robert Dawson Robert's wife here, he has the prime account and made the shipping free. I read a pre-released version of this book and have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and reminders to really live my leadership. I worked through Kathleen's first book, Living the Leadership Choice back in 2012. I've been craving something that focused on me and my leadership, and moved beyond the catch phrases and personal stories that I sometimes found hard to relate to because of the place of privilege some of the stars of personal development hail. This book is humble, and unexpectedly challenging if your willing to open up, be honest and work through the thoughts and feelings you would rather not share. The two new theories introduced in the book, help you to work through those thought and feelings, and if you find yourself still hitting a wall, schedule an hour with Kathleen herself. I had a particularly stubborn limiting belief that I was struggling with, that I basically refused to articulate. In just a short hour conversation with Kathleen, I had not only given voice to the belief and incident, I had released its power over me, creating the space for so many wonderful experiences to follow, including new job offers and a little weightloss. As I returned to the lessons of the book after this clearing, I was able to get a little deeper into the material and begin to even more clearly and with greater ease create my life and live my leadership.

By Debi Leigh Kathleen's second book surpasses her first in the sense that it goes deeper into the process of personal leadership. I am loving waking up every morning and starting my day with Kathleen's generously-shared wisdom on this 28-day journey of "Choose to Lead." Its succinct format and direct approach make it so doable. A little bit of your time in the morning and you will be set in the right direction for your day, and for the journey of your life.

A Path for Getting Where You Want and Need to Go By Jason P Linde Kathleen’s new book is just what people need who understand they aren’t quite living the life they wanted. It is a guide to developing your best self and putting yourself in alignment with who you truly are and giving you the courage to become your best self. With her newest work, Kathleen deserves a place on the Mt. Rushmore of self-development greats right next to Tony Robbins and Dale Carnegie. It is a book you should purchase and use.
