By Amazon Customer I was a bright student at school, off-late not sure its because of stress or lack of proper nutrition, I'm unable to concentrate on anything and forget everything very fast. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. reaction to series more than individual book By ndmzero Wow, this is a tough one.First, this isn't just a review of this book, Masterminds. It is more a reaction to the Anniversary Day series, the last six of which have appeared in the last six months.I've been reading the Retrieval Artist series from the beginning (although I can't really pin it down to the actual start date.) I like the concept and I think it has addressed some interesting issues in interspecies relations from the get go.And partially, I'm reacting to the style of this presentation - that six books were published in six months. I bought the ebooks, and I don't regret it (I want to support authors I like) but I felt pressure ... of the top of my head I can't think of another author who at this time I would buy this many books from so quickly - so OK, for now, but I really hope this isn't a harbinger for the future of publishing. I assume it was an experiment, and I don't know how it turned out, but I think the circumstances were pretty unique.OK, for this series -- this book did resolve the overall situation.Possible Spoilers.'While I will concede that there is some justification for the scope of this situation, and even, now that I've read it all, the overriding motivation, the complexity of the series is an issue --Again, SpoilersThe overall complexity of the "Plan" of the Masterminds is daunting. THe author obviously spent a lot of effort supporting the story of the "attack" (in stages) on the Moon. There is a tradeoff here -- the "plan" has been in the works for decades, and somehow the separate stages are defeated by our "Heroes" in a short span of time. The first, second and even third times this happened it was -- acceptable. This last time it seemed to stretch the balloon just a bit much.. The exactitude of the "bad guys" - that the Peyti Clones knew the date they would die decades ahead (and apparently, that they all had the same date even though they were raised decades apart and that apparently this date just happened to coincide with Anniversary Day which commemorated an event that wasn't orchastrated by them (from the an earlier book in the series.) Seems to reflect poor planning, frankly.Ultimately, there were too many moving parts in the plan. Even with the infinite resources (which were established quite convincingly) for the Masterminds.Also, when you plot a series of events this complex, you have to expect readers to reread books (in whole or in part) so should be very careful with details. And while the author is careful, and is a good writer, I'm still accumulating several pages of nitpicks about the whole thing.I like the book. I'm beginning the reread (and HINT, pay attention at the beginning of this book - it'll pay off later) - I like the series and I like the universe, I'm just not entirely convinced that it needed quite this many books to get to the conclusion. But they were all good reads.I don't see this model of publishing fitting well into a universe of used book stores and/or libraries. So possibly this is the future - I'm just not sure I'm going to like it.Edit - Jan 2016 - FWIW - one of my local libraries (Fairfax Cty, VA) does have at least one of this sub-series in paperback. I believe that means they will have more.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. the grand finale of the Anniversary Day saga By Audrey This is the conclusion to the Anniversary Day saga I was waiting for. There is the suspense of a suspected impending third Moon bombing. More villains appear. We find out who was responsible for the clones, the Moon bombings, and more. All of the key characters (Miles, Noelle, etc.) appear as well as a number of other characters that appeared in the past seven books. I like Kristine Kathryn Rusch's books and writing style. This one was up to her usual standards.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. So much stress, so little time! By Kitchen Queen Awww...the final installment...sigh. Not ready to leave the Retrieval Artist series any time soon. Excellent, "can't put it down," weaving of the story lines to a final conclusion. I am amazed how Rusch uses her descriptive powers to flesh out realistic characters and their struggles. Very consistent throughout the series. Ending leaves room for more exploration of clone issues and how the Frontier contributed. And I hope Rusch follows through!

In particular the first half of the book is fairly engaging, but the story basically stalls out in the second half.Could be spoilerish below.I find the central conflict/premises of the book to be a bit lacking 1. The world is controlled by a secret group of wizards. Most conflict (WW1, WW2, etc) have been caused by them in order to drive the advancement of mankind. 2. But, the other premise is the main character is the first new wizard in 400 years. He unlike the others understands and appreciates science/technology. This understanding makes him more powerful than them (basically). But if the other wizards don't appreciate or understand technology/science/whatever why are they causing conflicts to push humanity forward? Wouldn't they rather a nice comfortable society that is stagnate?3. Perhaps my favorite part is the main characters plan to fight the wizards. He is wants to create magical AI robots. I cannot see anyway this could go wrong. Hopefully he will have a chance to see Avengers: Age of Ultron before implementing the plan.The author has the main character make too many poor choices that are there just to move the story along. - The initial chase scene is starts on a mountain in Afghanistan. The main character has been stuck there for a few days sense becoming a wizard, but finally has created a magic tool that will let him leave. All he needs to do is (basically) snap his fingers and step through a magical portal to be home. But he decides 'nah, I am too tired to snap my fingers and step through a portal. I'm gonna sleep here on the mountain tonight'. He wakes up in the morning and is being stalked by monsters. Cue the chase music. - The second half of the book finds him hiding out in Chicago. - He (a now 40 year old white guy) is living in a primarily Hispanic, low income, working class neighborhood. - He creates himself a new magic enhancing bracelet out of gold. We are told repeatedly it weighs three pounds. FYI 3 pounds of gold is worth ~$54,000 (in todays prices) - You know what happens to people who stick out in a neighborhood while walking around with a clearly visible $54,000 bracelet? One, they stick out like a sore thumb, which is the opposite of being in hiding. Two, they get stabbed and robbed. The main character gets stabbed and robbed.Don't get me wrong, the book is far from terrible. It is the stark difference between the first and second halves of the book that really highlight the flaws.

I very much like the idea of combining technology/science and wizardry. The premise that the other wizards are all more than 400 years old and hence don't understand technology at all just doesn't fit with the stated goals of those other wizards which is to force mankind to improve technology. If they don't understand it, they would most likely be trying to keep mankind in the middle ages.The first half of the book basically turns into a long chase in which the protagonist just can't get away from the bad guys. A long chase scene only occasionally enlivened by him applying technology just seems to be filling up space. I didn't really dislike it, but I kept wishing it would end and we could get on to something more.The second half was more disjointed. The love story was fine, but the rest of the story was just about him waiting for the materials for his talisman to come together. I don't object to the love story, but I was hoping for a higher level of technology-magic interaction.Clearly it is the start of a series as stated and at least the ending wasn't a total cliff hanger. Good job on that. It did come at a reasonable break point.So, I liked it but didn't love it although I really wanted to. I will be reading the next in the series with the hope that it gets better and gives the characters more to do than just reacting to threats.

Could have, should have, been much better By Amazon Customer Paul, a 61 year old divorced "senior citizen" and electrical engineer, is driving home in a snowstorm after a long day of work when he comes upon a motorist in distress. Stopping to help, he is pulled into an adventure and change-of-life -- made into a wizard with no "instruction manual"...Paul is representative of an unhealthy lifestyle -- fat, working 70-80 hour weeks with considerable stress, TV dinners, and Science Fiction (books, movies, TV shows) as his only entertainment.The series premise though often-used, is interesting enough and has possibilities. A cabal of several hundred "wizards", able to manipulate time, space, etc, are secretly directing world government into wars and what not for their own benefit. The protagonist "Paul" sets out to give "normals" their freedom back.The story begins deteriorating after Paul arrives at his house and meets "the genii". His mental age seems to drop from 61 to his teens & 20's, while his thought processes and common sense evaporate. He consistently only sprouts phrases from his favorite SciFi (shows, movies, books) and seems incapable of independent thought. As the book progresses, he seems only able to make decisions without forethought and planning.As other reviewers have pointed out, (Paul) "appears the idiot" and the story seems uneven. He eventually falls into a rather sappy romance, which extends but doesn't really enhance the book.He also doesn't use his "61 years of experience", seldom uses engineering skills, and continues to make the same mistakes...Overall, the story is both forced and contrived. Paul, a "created wizard" first thought to be a spy, is chased through Europe, and into Mexico & the USA. Why is he important enough to be chased to that degree -- the author gives no reason?The "wizard cabal" seems stuck in the world of their youth, the youngest having been born 400 years prior. That's more than a bit unrealistic -- people learn just to survive in the world, and they have to have enough knowledge to direct the efforts of the governments they are suborning.I can't recommend this book as written. It's too easy to see what must happen during the rest of the series to waste time & money.The book ends on a wedding -- why is that significant to a reader? I have to assume that the author is "tossing in a romance" because "romance sells", yet another reason not to read further...

As working adults, we are sometimes consumed with the every day demands of debt, work, family, and trying to live the "American Dream", that we put our dreams on the back end of our "to-do-list". Some may not know where or how to start building and or marketing their dreams and or ideas. This book will get you geared up and motivated to stop putting off your dreams and become the entrepreneur you've always wanted to be and or destined to be.

The author appears to be knowledgeable and gives a clear overview of various ways to invest in yourself. Key points are summarized in Chapter 7 "Invest in You" (thumbs-up) and Chapter 4 "Look for the Opportunity(Two thumbs-up). He educates investors about potential pitfalls in real estate to negotiating techniques. I had a difficult time buying my rental home and never realized how I could have done it so much easier and with little to no money down. This book's first chapter actually broke down the meaning of entrepreneur in a way that shed light on Taking Risk without FEAR. Then he tells you ways to assess yourself to know whether you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur and ends with Plan Development. The book is a MUST READ!

By Jackie Cooper This book has an excellent collection of swirling, layered, entwined and combined designs and patterns that are imaginative, very complex and intricate. This book will challenge and inspire you if you love very detailed coloring.Many of the images are so complex they will take days to complete so this book is not for everyone. If you prefer less complex designs and patterns this artist has just published two other excellent coloring books “Adult coloring books Magic Christmas for Relaxation Meditation and Blessing” and “Creative Flowers Adult Coloring book” both have less complex but artistic and inspiring designs and patterns to color..1. 30 illustrations printed one per page (the back of each page is blank) on light weight bright white paper.2. The patterns are very detailed so Gel Pens, colored pencils or ultra fine markers must be used .3. All markers and Gel pens bleed through the paper, I place a piece of paper under the page I am coloring to prevent damage to the next page.4. I am adding my favorite patterns for you.

Most have a 'medium' level of intricacy, taking at least several hours to complete. But a few have really, tiny details which would require fine tip markers.Each of the 30 designs are printed single sided, and on the back it says "My drawing page" (see my photos). Most are abstract designs, but there are several village scenes, dolphins, and some that include words like "Summer" and "Happy Day".Overall, this book has a nice variety of designs for the price.

By Amazon Customer We place adult coloring books in the waiting room of the hospital area in which I work. We've just added this one to our library and I'm a huge fan of the designs. Patients and their families can color in the books while waiting and easily rip out the pages if they want to take their artwork home with them, or they can leave it for other people to admire or add to. We've occasionally get people mentioning how much they enjoyed using the books but what really speaks for itself is how quickly they get completely used up
