These are just the sweetest stories ever! Each novella can be read as a stand alone story with no cliffhangers but I would highly recommend reading them all. You'll never regret it! I was blubbering like a big baby throughout the entire book. Twenty five year old bear-shifter Jessica White has lived a tortured life for the past nine years. At age 16 her mother died in an automobile accident and she has been terrorized, beaten, starved and abused by her older brother Kai ever since . Her brother, Kai is a monstrous Kodiak bear and is Alpha of the Flint Crew. He's terrifying, violent, unpredictable and a real-life sociopath, and there's not a single person on this earth that can help her - until now. She only saw him once, across the parking lot of their warehouse but once was enough to know that he was her mate. Although she doesn't even know his name, she does know he's one of her brother's mortal enemies, a member of the Hudson Crew, but that doesn't stop her bear from bonding with the handsome stranger. And God help her, she wants him, wants to be with him, wants to be claimed by him and wants to be loved by him. But it's only a dream and could never, ever be a reality, not as long as her brother is alive. He'll never allow it. He would kill her before he would allow her to be happy. The dialogue is smart, well written and at times,outrageously funny. The characters are captivating, engaging, endearing and just so darn cute. Fox skillfully combines these elements into a delightfully entertaining paranormal romance with the perfect combination of heartbreaking angst and laugh out loud humor. I loved it! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful virgin she-bear who is terrorized by her own brother-check! Loyal, brave bear shifter willing to fight and die for his mate-check! Returning cast of familiar, loyal characters from the Hudson crew always willing to lend a helping and sometimes, not so helping hand-check! Hudson crew hijinks-check! Sociopathic brother and his evil crew-check! Heated attraction, sweet romance and heart-wrenching angst-you bet! It made me cry and also made me laugh but at the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. What more could you ask from a great story? Not a darn thing! Deliciously cute and delightfully entertaining !!!

Finch and Jessica bond with only one glance and in a parking lot of all places. She is the sister of Kai, the alpha of the Flint Crew and the Hudson Crew’s enemy. This was a totally unexpected event and both crews were baffled over the bonding. They knew there was no future for the couple. Bennett, alpha of the Hudson Crew wouldn't allow them to attempt to rescue Jessica. He knew the potential danger of losing another member of the crew was a strong possibility. With only six bears left, it was huge risk that he refused to take.Jessica has lived under her brother's domineering dictatorship from an early age. She's learned to blend into the background. When her bear recognizes its mate, her life is thrust into limbo. Her brother forbids the union and locks her in basement of his home while threatening her if she leaves, he would harm her mate. After a lifetime of Kai's brutal beatings, she knows he will follow through. Finch aka Finlay is the MacGyver of the Hudson crew. He can fix an airplane with a garbage can and is the considered the easy going one of the crew. When he finds his mate he is lost without her.This is a short read that is a fun, entertaining novella. Finch bonded to Jessica at first sight. Problem she is the sister of Kai a psycho alpha of a rival crew who has abused her most of her life and keeping her locked up. So how can he get to his mate without causing harm to come to his crew? I liked the story...a great concept and always well written although it did fell rushed to come to a conclusion.

By Liana Smith Bautista | Will Read for Feels * This review was originally posted on my book blog, Will Read for Feels.It feels like Eliza Victoria’s books have been on my to-read list forever! In all honesty, I’d say that while I’d heard about her work, she really intrigued me at the Philippine Literary Festival in October of last year, where I attended a talk on the business side of writing in which she was a panelist. I met her briefly during the annual ReaderCon a month later (not that she’d remember) after a talk in which I was a panelist. I’ve read a few of her stories in anthologies since then and had bought volumes of her books I meant to start but didn’t (so many books, so little time, but that’s a rant for another day). Then I heard that her short novel Dwellers was a finalist for this year’s National Book Awards. And I decided it was a sign. This is it, I thought. I am going to read this. I don’t care that people say I should start with her short fiction anthologies. I’m reading THIS. BOOK. Glowing reviews from several writers and friends, including Anne, who listed it in her list of top non-romance reads by Filipino authors, just cemented the deal.So I bought it. And I read it. And allowed this author to slowly chip away at my cranium so that by the end of it, I half expected to find that blood and bone and bits of gray matter had trickled down the side of my head in a slow-moving waterfall, pumped out with every page turn, every chapter. In other, less purple words? I’ll give you two: Mind. Blown.Let me get one thing straight first. If you asked me outright, “Did you like the book?” I don’t know how I would answer it. “Like” seems like such a lukewarm word to describe something that elicited such a visceral reaction. To say yes would be inaccurate; I didn’t smile the entire time I was reading this book. I was stressed from the first page to the last. In fact, my husband came into the room just seconds after I read the final page, and he said my face was freaking scary, a dazed, utterly lethargic expression on it. I was lying down at the time, and when I got up, I actually did check the pillow to see if blood had seeped out of my ears. So, no, I didn’t “like” the book. And yet I’m going to tell every friend of mine who is a spec fic and/or mystery fan that if they read one book by a Pinoy this year, this needs to be it. Because, because. And you’ll probably only know what’s meant to come after the “because” after you’ve read it and had your own brain turned to so much stew and sludge.Okay. Enough drama. The story’s essentially a mystery with speculative fiction (I’d say it’s in the same continent as horror but not quite in the same country) elements as the two main characters in the story are essentially body snatchers who find themselves dwelling in the skins of brothers Louis and Jonah. The story is told from the point of view of the dweller inside Jonah (and already you know this is going to be a humdinger, right?). The dwellers share a house so the young man inside Louis, who happens to be the cousin of the one inside Jonah, can care for “Jonah,” whose legs have been severely injured after they crash their car.Together, the dwellers must get to know the men whose bodies they inhabit so as to fully take over their lives. They were running from a bad situation, but when they find a body of a college girl in a freezer in their basement, they have got to be wondering if they haven’t just stepped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Now they need to find a way to get themselves out of a decidedly sticky situation, and it seems the best way is to find out how the girl died. At the same time, though, they also need to lay low in the hope that the past they were running from in the first place doesn’t catch up with them.As far as liking goes, I liked the character of “Louis” much more than I liked “Jonah” (I’m using quotes because it’s essential to remember that we never actually meet the real Louis and Jonah, only the people residing inside their bodies). This is mostly because of the two, “Louis” seems more of a doer, while “Jonah” seems more of a wallower, in that he tends to spend too much time in his own head, dwelling (haha) on the past and on what ifs. Although this isn’t really a criticism of the character, as it makes the storytelling from his point of view all the more believable.As far as the mystery goes, Victoria kept me guessing right up until the big reveal at the end. All I knew until that point was that there was no way this could end with a happily ever after. Her pacing was spot-on, slow enough to let the dread and curiosity build, but fast enough to keep me turning pages so that the curiosity never turned into frustration. The end didn’t come as too much of a surprise, as she’d laid the groundwork for it with a masterful hand, but it wasn’t what I expected either, so she gets full points for that.The only thing that kept me five-starring this read (and it’s minor, really) was that there were moments when I had to consciously suspend disbelief regarding the setting and investigation. Setting-wise, the author referenced the Philippines so as to leave one in no doubt as to what country this took place in, but the house and characters didn’t really seem typically Filipino (flooding ensures that few houses have basements, and the names of the characters are somewhat on the rare side; I think I would’ve had an easier time believing in a “Luis” over a “Louis”). Investigation-wise, let’s just say that with regard to the body that was found, I had to tell myself repeatedly that DNA matching must not have been an option for law enforcement.Nitpicking aside, though, this is a seriously good novel, and I will certainly not be waiting months before reading the other Eliza Victoria books I already have in my Kindle app. A word of warning, though: while seriously good, it is also seriously creepy, so it would be best to prepare yourself as this author will stick fingers into your brain and wiggle them about, then tug at your entrails in certain parts, just for fun.

I love how the touch of fantasy (the main characters have powers to inhabit other's bodies) was thrown into the plot, giving more shine to the story and making it unique from the other crime stories I've read. I also love the pacing because no scene or character was wasted, keeping me guessing what will unfold next. Even the circumstances of the main characters were planted so well (e.g. Jonah getting trapped on a wheelchair after the car accident) that it added more weight and intensity on their predicament. I wish more readers will discover this, because I believe that it is at par with some of the Western crime/suspense stories I've read.

These are often essential in figuring out a particularly tricky theme. Most of the puzzles are older than those in Vol. 1, despite being published later.

By Elizabeth If you have any interest in health care in general, or any form of disease or illness, it is well worth reading this book. We take what happens to specimens of blood, urine etc for granted, assuming the samples will be properly taken at the correct time, handled appropriately and that the tests will be done in such a way that accurate and reliable results will be generated. Sadly, however, this is not necessarily the case and patients need to be aware of what can go wrong in order to ensure that it does not.Although much of the information is based on US medical care, with many independent labs handling tests as well as hospital labs, there is a great deal in this book which is highly relevant to the UK too.As a hospital trained midwife, I have to admit that there were quite a few things about lab testing that I certainly did not know and nether did my doctor colleagues, so it is fairly safe to assume that the vast majority of patients who have lab tests done would not know either. When should your TSH thyroid test be done for the most accurate results? Unless you want to run the risk of being inaccurately diagnosed as hypothyroid, avoid having your test done before noon when there is a natural surge in the hormone levels which could skew your results quite markedly...How and when should blood be drawn? How are results interpreted? Why do tests fail and need to be re-done? To fast or not to fast before blood tests? Who draws up the reference tables against which the results are interpreted, and are these accurate across a range of age groups and for both males and females? What tests do you actually need to have done?You might think the answers to these questions are simple, but you would be mistaken. An excellent and clearly written guide for patients and which will also be of value and interest to health care professionals.

I had never paid much mind to the way blood tests are handle, although I had thought about the effectiveness of storing blood samples in those containers outside medical offices. Alas! Here is my answer.This book offers little hope in terms of the validity and accuracy of blood tests. However, they must be done.Things I will have to consider when getting future blood tests after reading this book:1. What time of the day should I get my blood drawn for optimal results?2. Did I have a restful, good night of sleep?3. Did the blood drawer wait for the alcohol used to disinfect the area to dry before drawing?4. Did the drawer ask me to flinch my fist?5. Did the drawer use one of those butterfly needles?6. Was blood drawn from my arm or my hand?7. Did the blood drawer place the tub straight, upside? Or did he carelessly place it vertically on the table?8. Did the blood drawer fill the tubs in the right order?9. Were the tubs filled to the mark, or were they under filled?10. Was my sample waiting in that little box outside the medical office in cold/hot weather?11. How long has my sample being waiting in that box?12. When did my sample actually make it to the lab?13. Did they spin my sample at the right speed?14. Did the lab use a FDA approved machine?15. Did somebody actually check the results or was it just all computer generated?16. Is my doctor looking at me or writing in the computer?17. Have I been over or under diagnosed?I think those 17 are enough to make me crazy. I will carry this list with me to my next testing.By all means, do read the book and discover how your lab work can (and will) go wrong.Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this title.

A must read for all By Donna McBroom-Theriot I'm sure we all take for granted when we visit a doctor's office and lab for blood work and other tests, that our blood (and other things) are being handled with the utmost care and that the results will be accurate. Dr. Ralph Giorno, author of BLOOD TRAILS, informs us that this is not always the case.BLOOD TRAILS takes us inside the journey of where our blood and urine (etc.) goes after it leaves our bodies. What he reveals can be frightening. Dr. Giorno also answers many questions - questions we sometimes do know to ask and are not informed of before we submit to tests - When should your TSH thyroid test be done for the most accurate results? If you want the most accurate reading, do not have your test done before noon. There is a natural surge in the hormone levels which could lead to inaccurate readings and diagnosis.Other questions that he answers are how and when should blood be drawn. This particularly interested me as I have blood drawn on a regular basis due to blood disorders. Why do tests fail and need to be re-done? Fast or not before blood tests? What tests do you really need to have done?These questions may seem simple with simple answers, but they are not. BLOOD TRAILS contains valuable information and is a clearly written guide that patients and family members can understand. Health care professionals may also find this book to be a valuable tool.I am giving BLOOD TRAILS five stars. By Petrov Neutrino This is the third and final book of the Blood Ladders trilogy. If you are reading the reviews for the third book, you either have purchased the other two already (and really do not need to read this, other than to gauge my reaction), or you are browsing the reviews of all three to decide if you want to read these books. If you are trying to decide, my advice - do so. Now! Treat them as one complete volume, since you will want to move quickly forward.As for this book, it is a wonderful conclusion to the trilogy. Immensely satisfying, deeply emotional, with plenty of action, surprises, and moments both beautiful and horrific. The series comes to an end fitting for the intellectual nature of the characters, well thought out to the final page. Also, M.C.A. Hogarth included some additional material on the languages and runes appearing throughout the series, and I again stress the detail involved with designing an e-book to use graphic elements to enhance the experience.Thank you.

I leaped off my chair punching the air in triumph, and I wailed at my computer in anguish. Readers beware: this book will punch you in the feels. All the feels. And you'll like it! I hope. The closing is sweet and satisfying, not so much tidy and neat as thoroughly addressed and well thought out. A glorious ending.

By Ty Barbary This is possibly the most satisfying ending to a trilogy that I've ever read, short of Lord of the Rings.At no point is this plot easy; at no point are the answers plain, clear, or simple. At every moment, the characters must make hard choices and be brilliant in their own ways--and violence is not always the answer. When philosophy students take on the end of the world, they have to get creative and use all of their resources.Certain revelations occur in this book that are stunning, beautiful, and heart-wrenching. MCAH does not pull her punches when she aims for the feels, but she is exquisite with her timing. There is an excellent, endurance-fortifying balance between "things are terrible and how can we ever survive!" and "hey I had this one crazy idea that just might work" and sheer stubbornness on the characters' parts. This book was an enormous sigh of relief for how well she handled the culmination of so many characters, so much heavy and biting plot, and everything that was at stake.And I really, really like the fact that the end of the Final Boss Battle(TM) was not the end of the story. The world was different, broken and only half-reforged--and the characters had to attend to that. MCAH managed to keep a thread of tension and uncertainty running through the book even after the trilogy's official climax had been reached, which is an impressive feat. Cleaning up the mess was not easy or straightforward, much like the larger plot, but it brought with it the satisfaction of making sure certain people and certain situations were appropriately resolved.This book, this trilogy, was a stunning read, equal parts gritty and uplifting, and deeply worth the time spent with Morgan and his friends.

About the Author

Benjamin Joseph is former Professor of Orthopaedics and Head of Paediatric Orthopaedic Service, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India.

Randall Loder is Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, James Whitcomb Riley Children’s Hospital, and the Garceau Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

James Robb is former Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh, Scotland and Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK.

Ian Torode is Director of Orthopaedics, Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.

This is a clear and concise discussion on several aspects of hemi-melias, missing bones, and limbs, Agenesis of bones and joints with an emphases on MRI, US , and x-Ray imaging is covered. Etiology involving genetic and congenital mechanisms is present here. I highly recommend this text for all orthopaedic trainees and seasoned physicians with interest in musculoskeletal disorders of children
