Clark First I couldn't sleep because I could not stop reading and then I could not sleep because I was so spooked by the dark! I particularly enjoyed getting to know the distinctly different characters; part of the suspense is that you really care about what happens to each and every one of them. I have to add, the twist at the end is a real treat.

By Kate Franklin It seldom rains all day in Florida, but for awhile in July this year, it did, and was I ever happy about it. I had started reading Dark Lights, by Briar Lee Mitchell, and I couldn't put this book down. The story drew me right in with its vivid description. The action is fast paced and the setting is delightfully creepy. Set in the Bahamas, the story follows a scientist couple to a deserted logging camp and into a complex mystery that weaves characters from vastly different backgrounds into a valiant struggle for survival. The plot twists and turns in amazing ways that carry the reader along on this high energy adventure. I was prepared for action from reading Mitchell's Big Ass Shark and Walking on Mars, and I certainly wasn't disappointed, but for me the greatest strength of this novel is the careful crafting of the characters. These are people who stay with you. I hope we'll meet up with them again.

Bille As with her Antarctic adventures, Briar Lee Mitchell's strongest suit is the way she evokes exotic locales that are great places to set a thriller. In this book, she takes us to the Bahamas, where two EPA scientists and a writer out of his depth attempt to figure out what's killing and deforming vegetation at a former logging camp. (One doesn't normally think of the Bahamas as supporting logging, but it used to.) What they find in the mostly-collapsed logging camp buildings really creeps them out, and the reader will feel the same. Bizarre images, crosses, and secret burial sites - one indicating cannibalism - are just some of the enigmas they uncover. Casey and her husband (both the kind of memorable characters you'd want to go on an adventure with) try hard to figure out what happened, with help from local officials and a US Coast Guard drug patrol. Death and injury come out of nowhere in many forms to make this an extremely hazardous undertaking, and that's a major understatement. There's a secret buried under the island that no one has ever found, and when our intrepid protagonists do find it, they must race to avert a catastrophe. Some things I like in Mitchell's work are the things she does NOT do. There's no evil conspiracy hiding the truth. There's no throwing in excess violence or sex to mask weaknesses in the story. She delivers a lean, fast-moving adventure with fresh ideas and undecorated prose. There are some minor glitches in the description of technology that forced me (nitpicking science writer that I am) to take off half a star, and it's puzzling to encounter Coast Guard people with no mention of rank, but those are quibbles. Mitchell is putting together a great body of work in the scientific-thriller genre. His interpretations of the future are entertaining warnings! Interesting that the more uncomfortable one becomes when reading, the more likely the plot resembles today's obvious sociological shifts... or is that just psychosis? Drugs? You decide.

From the 50's these stories still resonates todayA large variety of themes are covered without duplication of material. If you like PDK in the least you'll like this megapack.

Six, seven, ... more than 5 for sure.A collection of short stories from the 50s, so unbelievably actual that it is hard to think they are 60 years old.There are various levels of stories and some are clearly better then others, though there are so many gems in this book. For one, you can clearly see an inspiration for the x-men in one of the stories and once you notice it, you can't but wonder if that specific story gave the spark to Stan Lee & Co to create what would later be an entire "universe".Highly recommended, next to the other stories of Philip K. Dick. If there is something striking it is how many radically different stories this author was able to conceive with extremely rare if any repetitions. After all this is the author on which Blade Runner, Minority Report and many others are directly based and several other Sci-Fi franchises got heavily inspired from, including the Terminator saga and apparently even X-men.Personally I will make sure to get all the Philip K dick works over time as the author is truly (as widely recognized) the best Sci-Fi writer of all times.

If You're Smart, You'll Pick This One Up By Silver Screen Videos I enjoy word puzzles, mathematical puzzles, and logic puzzles, so a book that contains all three of these types of puzzles will get my attention. And, since the only thing better than a book of puzzles is a free book of puzzles, "30 Interactive Brain Teasers" definitely got my attention when I came across it on Amazon. Now that I've gone through the book, it gets my approval as well.In the introduction to "30 Brain Teasers," the authors caution that the puzzles in the book are at a beginner level for teens and adults. In general, I found that to be true; I only had to think for more than a few seconds on a half dozen or so of these puzzles. However, other people may be less familiar with these types of puzzles than I am and may find more of them to be challenging. I would also note that a number of these puzzles have been floating around for a long time, so that even beginners have probably come across a few of them (such as the classic riddle, "Brothers and sisters have I none ...). Still, younger readers, especially those who enjoy puzzles. will probably find these quite entertaining.The puzzles are generally short, a paragraph or less in length apiece. Each puzzle has both a clue and an answer, both of which can be accessed by links from the page on which the puzzle appears. There's only one clue or answer per page, so a reader can't accidentally spoil a future puzzle by seeing the answer too early. The clue is usually not something vague but a statement that should point readers quite clearly in the right direction (a couple of clues warn readers that the most obvious answer is incorrect). From the clue page, readers can either link back to the puzzle itself to think about it some more or to the answer page. From the answer page, readers can either go back to the previous puzzle (to see how the answer is logically derived from the question) or on to the next puzzle. The linking system is very easy to pick up and using the links made it possible for me to easily progress through the book.Although "30 Brain Teasers" has a number of different types of puzzles, the most common are word puzzles (like the "brothers and sisters" one), logic puzzles, such as figuring out what's in a particular box based on pulling one item from the box, and mathematical puzzles of the "if A gave B one of his items, he would have twice as many as B" type. All told, the book offers considerable variety in the 30 different puzzles.Admittedly, veteran puzzle solvers or bright youngsters may get through "30 Brain Teasers" in an hour or so, but I can't complain about the book's value proposition because the authors offer it for free as an introduction for their longer (and more expensive) books. On that basis, I can't complain and, in fact, recommend the book for just what it is: a short book of basic, not always original, brain teasers. Regardless of whether they whiz through the book in less than an hour or pass it around to their entire family I think that any puzzle lover will find something to like here. And as long as the authors offer it for free, there's no complaining about the price. The final answer is: you don't have to be a real brain to enjoy "30 Brain Teasers."

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Interactive Brainteasers (ebook) By Vera Tass I think this is a decent puzzle book, but it also falls short in some respects. It is much simpler than I expected, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but should be noted. There are pages with brain teasers, and right below the puzzles are two buttons, one to get a clue and one to give you the answer. The best comparison is that it's like a physical copy of a crossword puzzle book, but you have the convenience of not having to flip pages back and forth to check your answers. It's convenient, but it is very simple.A lot of the brain teasers I came across are new, and a handful are puzzles I've seen before (or that I've seen variations of). Considering this is a "beginner" book, the puzzles are pretty challenging. Someone who has done a lot of puzzles like this in the past may not find it as challenging though,The biggest problem I came across is that some of the puzzles aren't worded very well, and don't give enough information to get to the right answer.*Possible Spoilers*As an example, one puzzle says"Sam and Charlotte were born at the exact same moment, but they don't have the same birthdays. How could this be?" The answer says they were born at the same time, but in different time zones. In my mind, "the exact same moment" means the exact same point in time, regardless of time zone. To be more accurate, I think it would be more accurate the question should be worded that they were born at the same time.Another example is this: "Three closed boxes have either apples, bananas, or both, and are labeled "Apples," "Bananas," or "Mixed." However each box has the wrong label on it. You may open one box only see its contents. Which box should you open to determine the contents of all three boxes?" The answer though describes a process in which you open two boxes to determine the contents of the third.There are a couple other examples, but these two are the ones that really stuck out for me.OVERALL, I think this book of brainteasers is a good book with some challenging puzzles. I think there's room for improvement, but it's still a good buy to exercise your brain-muscle!I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

I have not been able to answer puzzles or riddles for a long time. It is nice that the author really indicated that the book is for beginners only and not applicable for advanced readers. It would be a lot effective if shown on the title itself that it is for beginners only.I can say this is a pretty good one, really brain-cracking. I was only able to answer a quarter of them correctly. I guess I am still novice at this genre. Overall, I learn a lot from this book. It felt like these riddles increased my IQ at some point.I might share these riddles to my collegues to warm them up too. It is very short though. But as a free book, it's a thumbs up! Recommended.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Decent stories, but no variety By S. Blanchard I just finished the series, and am glad I didn't buy them individually. All in all, the stories aren't bad, but they're ridiculously predictable - so cookie-cutter. The first story is slightly different because our Reestrian hero has known the woman for a long time and has always loved her. He risks everything to go back to Earth in an attempt to talk her into being his mate forever. The rest of the stories were all the same in how they played out: Reestrian male meets Earth female, the male's mating fever kicks in and he decides he wants to mate with the Earth female, time is short because the Reestrian male could go insane if he doesn't mate within a few days, the Earth female says no because she wants a traditional Earth "wine-and-dine" courtship, the male risks his sanity to give her the courtship she wants, the mating fever mysteriously abates enough for him to do so even though it was hitting him hard-and-heavy initially, eventually the Earth female gives in and they become bonded mates. Soul mates, of a sort, although I was also disappointed in the constant reminders that, even though our Earth female sparked the mating fever, the Reestrian male can actually have sex with any unclaimed female in order to fix the mating fever, and the bond will be just as deep and special as it would have been with our heroine. I would have preferred a setup where the female was special in some way, instead of having one of her reasons for giving in to our hero being that she didn't want him to move on to someone else. It was disappointing to me that he could go ahead and have the same kind of bond with any woman.All in all, the stories weren't bad, but after the third one, it was just too repetitive for me.

Restraint Mates:The Complete Series By Kindle Customer Diane Werning I just finished reading the whole series,it was great.I love a sci-find romance.All of the aliens in these stories acted tuff but they were just big teddy bears.I don't know how any human could resist a hunky alien.You have to buy the complete set and curl up with a cup of tea and read.

By linda flick/the bookworm I usually only enjoy serial novels about a single couple where the novellas added together make a whole novel but this one was about five different couples. Kinda hard to tell a full story in that short of word count. However, I think that they were really good and I wouldn't be adverse to checking out more books by this author. Good job!

It got me through nursing school 8 years ago and still aids me in brushing up and test prep. I'm a visual learner and the silly cartoons really help me retain the content of the section. I'm studying for my CCRN and this is a huge help. I really like the new addition and the color pages are great! Highly recommend as a quick refresh for the visual learner!

Other parts I felt as if I was being spoken to as a child, which irked me somewhat. Other sections had blatant errors (Dead-Space is not Equivalent to shunting).

There are touches of Twilight, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, but the author has created a fresh new world for the Timeless. At one point, I read for four hours straight without lifting my eyes from the book! Buy them; it will be the best money you ever spent!!!!!Yes, she needs a better proofreader and editor. There is repetition of certain descriptive phrases, and there are errors, such as incorrect words or names, but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the story.

This book primarily takes place 16 years after the last books, and is the story of Cheyenne and Colt's daughter, Kitty. She is deeply involved in the Timeless clans, and I loved seeing all the twists and turns her life is taking, as well as all the surprises that come up along the way! My only complaint about this book (which really isn't a complaint at all) is that it left me wanting the next book - RIGHT NOW!!!

Deceptions just strengthens my love for the series. Its introducing the newer generations of Timeless. New characters to fall in love with. It has its twists & turns and exciting moments. Its a great read for the summer but Im positive it won't last a week. You can't stop reading! I tried to make it last but failed!!

Moran This is the cliff notes for anyone who wants to understand the methods to create financial freedom. Tried and true methods, espoused by other financial educators like Robert Kiyosaki or Dave Ramsey, but in an easy-to-absorb format that takes out all the fluff and gives you the essence of what it takes to remove the shackles of living paycheck to paycheck and develop a plan for creating true financial freedom.A few typos here and there, but nothing that would take away from the content. Could there be more meat on this bone? For sure ... but I don't think that is the purpose of this book. This is the 10,000 foot view, and if you want additional resources and information you're encouraged to invest in your own financial education.I also appreciate that there wasn't any up-selling in this book. It isn't a platform for Josh to promote his site or work (they are only mentioned a couple of times), but to help you get a grasp on the topic. Thanks for not making this book a 7 chapter infomercial. :-)
