I hope that by writing my second book about living with neurofibromatosis (NF) and by including the stories from other people who suffer from NF, it will help to give a better understanding of how differently people are affected by this cruel condition. The condition does not only affect the person who has the condition but their families too. The book provides my continued diary of how I cope with living with Neurofibromatosis. Like my first book (Kirsty's story living with Neurofibromatosis and Scoliosis) this book contains a Glossary of the medical terms used in the book, information from some of my doctors and from other people who are involved in my medical care. I believe in making the most of what life has given me, I can't change the past, but hopefully I can try and make my future go my way. My Neurofibromatosis caused me no problems until I was eight years old when my life changed forever. I was also diagnosed with scoliosis at this time. I now live a very different, but full life, where my family and a large group of friends support me, some of whom have made a contribution to this book with their own thoughts. I can no longer do some of the things that I loved to do; I had to give it all up due to being in so much pain. My diary tells how and why my life changed due to the problems caused by Neurofibromatosis and Scoliosis. I love to help others and NF and Scoliosis has made me the person I am today.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A read for anyone who suffers from neurofibromatosis. By Lincoln girl 2007 I loved all the stories of people who suffer from NF. Since I too have NF everything that others stated fit me to a tee. All NF people have so much in common and we all suffer in so many different ways. The one thing I did take note of is how so many of us had a hard time in school.I also really enjoyed learning more about Kristy and her battle with NF. She did a great job writing her second book. Kristy has such a big heart and is such a wonderful young woman. Hope there will be a third book. I would love to follow Kristy and her journey with NF.

Some prompts don't particularly inspire much writing, such as which of two varieties of tomato I prefer (None, I hate them). Some require more thought.

It really does get the writing juices going. HOWEVER. The fact that the book can fit in your pocket was frustrating to me. For such a good idea they fell short on the design of the book which lead me to give it 2 stars. When I want to write I want to write on paper, not on a post it note size paper.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Not bad By BC1130 The author sent me a digital copy of this book before it's release in order to do an early review. I am not a professional reviewer. I am a reader and fan of fantasy books. This review is my fair opinion of The Ghosts of the Conquered.There are a lot of characters and a lot of different stories and at the end of the book, they didn't all connect. Some of the story was confusing and was eventually cleared up but at the end of the story there are still some loose ends that kept me from understanding the connection of some characters and their stories to what I believe is the main plot. I am still not sure there is only one main plot.1. A group of legendary warriors who fought for good have been betrayed and slaughtered. Two survivors aim to have revenge while fleeing a mad king, protecting a baby and aided by a blind man.2. An evil sorcerer plans to destroy all of mankind with part human, part animal creatures he has created.3. A ruler has his own sorcerer raise a dead ancestor and dead army to war with an insane ruler who hates him and who had his wife assassinated and his baby daughter stolen. There is an army fleeing through a mountain tunnel from another army while the dead army is approaching.4. A thief/assassin has been targeted for assassination by his own people and goes after them when they kill his daughter.5. There are two immortals of opposing faiths, the preacher and the Executioner. Their roles are not yet clear.Getting all the characters and their stories sorted and then linked to a main plot took some patience and some rereading, but once most of the puzzle was pieced together, it became a pretty interesting book. I will most likely read the second book to find out more about the main characters and I'm curious to see where some of the missing pieces of the stories are going to fit.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Sample before you buy By JustADude Lots of positive reviews and I'm posting the only one star. So, maybe it was me. Nevertheless, if you are a Kindle user, I'd strongly recommend reading the free sample before you buy. I did not and regretted it. My impressions:- Every character narrative jumps back and forth between memories, imaginings and actual events with no breaks or warnings making it extremely and unnecessarily difficult to determine what's actually happening. I don't mind being challenged as a reader (keeping all of the character relationships straight in GRRM's GoT is a pleasure) but this struck me as just plain bad writing.- Similarly, but separately, each main character flips around constantly and inexplicably between whiny obsessive angst over their prior failings, certainty that they will fail at their current task ("This was obviously the moment I would die ..."), and then, out of blue, god-like competence and confidence in their infallible talents. Again, I appreciate depth of character, and a certain amount of inconsistency can make characters more real, but this was just senseless (to me).- Terrible writing that evoked bad high school poetry edited with the occasional misuse of a thesaurus. Perhaps writing style is a matter of taste? If so, in this genre, mine run towards Rothfuss, Martin, Abercrombie, etc. I'm pretty confident that, if you like that sort of writing, you're also going to hate this sort.- Annoying quality/editing issues (e.g. "He lifted herself up onto the wall"). I'm used to that sort of thing, and forgive it, in the $.99 indie books that I frequently buy, and often love, in this genre - but not in a full price book such as this one.Unfortunately, I have no offsetting positive things to say. I really wanted to like this book. I also really want to provide a balanced review. Unfortunately, I just can't find one redeeming quality in this disaster.Almost everyone else seems to love this book so, again, maybe the issue is mine but I really recommend you think twice before you buy.

I would have preferred a little more character development, but hopefully that will happen in future books. This is exactly the kind of book I love to read, and I highly recommend it to anyone that likes magic, swords, heroes, sorcerers, and grotesque villains! The cliffhanger end makes it especially nail-biting!

Excellent By michael naylor I bought this to read with my daughter as she has always liked stories about mermaids and mermen and this one was a big hit. a very enjoyable and well written story that looks to be the start of a great series. Highly recommended.

Even now as an adult, I love to read different books about these beloved creatures. In this story, we follow an average teenage girl who is awaiting her high school graduation. On the other hand, we meet a merman who is a bit of a "daredevil" in the sea world.Watching these two characters collide was done beautifully. I enjoyed the author's exquisitely written first part of her series. She left me hanging when I began to not get enough of that world! I can't wait for what she has in store next in the next book!

Aperita offers 28 different races, all distinct. It's not 5 varieties of human, elf and dwarf, either -- though the given rules do allow for a lot of variety with every race. In the back are write-ups for how each race typical considers each of the other races. Dwarf/goblin, sentient bats, centaur, dwarf, elf, equosi, gnome/dwarf, faun, gnome, goblin, human/elf, halfling, human/orc, human, orc/hobgoblin, mer-octopus, elf/centaur, kitsune, sentient ravens, lamia, merfolk/human, merfolk, sentient fungi, nymph, orc, tanuki, sentient monkeys, sentient snakes. Each race and crossbreed has an description of what makes them unique in the world.There are thirteen classes: Arbiter, Assassin, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Magic User, Martial artist, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, Sage.Other sections include Equipment, Magic, Faith & Dieties, Social combat, magic items, The Adventure, Campaigns, and Creatures.They also offer a book of creatures -- Collectanea CreatureaHighly recommended.

0 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Complexity on top of complexity By Michael A. Johnson I must admit that I am disappointed. FATE is about simplifying the game. This expansion however seems to be how to add the entirety of D&D to FATE. Except the endless combat system. Fortunately it goes with the FATE combat. Except it adds a new variety - a social one where you fight with words trying to destroy a foe in a civil manner - in more added complexity. This is the sad part. In every thing it just adds lots of complexity. A dozen or more half breed character races, fully worked out to add to the regular ones. Even more character classes, also fully burdened with rules on how to have them. If I wanted complexity I would have just gone to D&D. Aether Sea for FATE handled this sort of thing in one twentieth of the verbiage.
