Russell Rittenhouse knows exactly what he wants: move from his job as a librarian at Bennett University to a professorship. Find a house. Find a wife. The American dream! And his fantasies revolving around “Goddess,” a pinup magazine featuring women with the extraordinary gift of size-shifting—well, those are just fantasies. Kailani, the beautiful otter princess of a tiny Pacific island, is an unexpected complication. Yet she might be the key. If Russell can sway her to go along with a millionaire’s schemes for a hotel on her island, his professorship—his life plan—is assured! What could possibly go wrong?

I bring this point up because Arilin has written some very intriguing love stories with giant furs before. The only difference being that the worlds they are set in feel like a world all of its own. What I mean by this, is that the world of Goddess is nothing more than our world with different wall paper, right down to a section of the book where it's mentioned that Europe is having problems with immigrating giants, while hard-line US politicians are calling for a ban on giants immigrating to the country. The plot of Goddess follows a cougar lawyer, Russell Rittenhouse and a pacific island princess otter, Kailani as they meet, fall in love, experience heart-break and betray. The characters didn't really jump out at me, as they are the usual suspects. There's the main antagonist, rabbit philanthropist Andrew Bennett, and the wise-cracking fox sidekick, Marvin. The only exception of any of these characters was Kailani. This is because she has an allure about her that's both mysterious and dangerous and reading the story, you'll understand why.Like I said before, there isn't much of a world as all the names and places are exactly the same. Aside from all humans being replaced by furs, the only other difference from our world and this one, are the giants: Or Size-Shifters. The cover of the book is a little misleading, as it's actually the cover of a magazine that Russell is subscribed to: Which means no giant husky woman. This magazine is brought up once, as an expository for giants and a kind-of chekhov's gun for Russell's relation with Kailani.Overall, there are some great moments in the book, but it takes a while to get there, and we don't even get to see any giant action until the very start of Chapter nine. The scenes when the characters are discussing giants are, to me, the only interesting moments of the book because it fleshes out the world Arilin is creating. The iterations between the characters just causes the story to drag, because it's just our world with furs. Still, it is a good read and I do recommend it to you if you like giant/tiny interaction fiction. Because, in-spite of the flaws I mentioned before, it's still manages to deliver.

A Masterful Tale for Macro and Non-Macro Fans By Bryan Osborne As a fan of Arilin Thorferra's past work—making it almost hard for me to believe that it took me this long to get to this tale—I'd be lying if I said I didn't already have some expectations. Well, after the closing page, I can safely and proudly say that not only did "Goddess" exceed expectations and showcase Arilin's already impressive resume, but it should be labeled as a perfect example on how macrophile storytellers have more to their craft than just what others may expect as only fetish material.Thoughts, feelings, drama, love, humor, law, and other more dangerous elements all lie in wait for Russell Rittenhouse. The journey from beginning to end can really tug at your heart and other types of strings. But the feeling to succeed is present all throughout. Without revealing too much of what's already been said, I'll just conclude that, while labeled as a "macro" tale (and, oh yes, there certainly is content that fits that genre), in reality, it's a tale for any 18+ furry to enjoy. Give it a read.
