Jacqueline Schuler sees the world in metaphors. Like, literally. Walking piles of excrement, censored nymphomaniacs, streets of violent rivers, and theatre props covering the burnt walls of a home make up the background to a life she tries to keep as normal as she can. But with the truth, comes the whole truth, and Jacqui finds herself having to cope with the mortality of those she cares about, time and time again.

She Sees Metaphors is bleak in all the right ways, as packed full of imagery as a Whitman poem, and yet totally approachable and undemanding. Its tone is conversational, its subject matter everyday, but its premise world-changing. When reading, you can't help but wonder how Jacqui would see you. You can't help but be uncomfortable at the utterly invasive nature of her ability. She doesn't know your secrets, she knows your soul, often better than you do. And yet, she doesn't become some kind of comic book super hero. Instead, Jacqui does what we all do every day: she goes on living.

By Heraclio Rodriguez Jr. She Sees Metaphors is a slice of life tale of Jacqui Shuler, who has the unique gift to see the truths, both beautiful and ugly, in people via metaphors. I am giving this book five stars because I was able to immerse myself into the world of this story and felt like I knew the characters as I ventured further into the tale and found myself looking forward to picking up where I left off whenever I had to reluctantly put down the Kindle. For being the authors first novel, I am impressed with the detail utilized for both the metaphors and personality of the characters (though they really were uniquely intermingled to paint a complete picture of them) and was pleased to feel like I had a personal view and relationship from the outside looking in.Dealing with various complicated and complex issues throughout, the story was able to evoke various emotions from happiness to sadness and some in between.I would like to opine that this is not the last we'll hear about Jacqui Schuler, or Pickle, or Cassie or any of the other characters present in the read (hint, hint Mr. Bryce David Salazar)... But what strikes me curious is that if ever I had the chance to confront this fictional character with such a unique ability in my lifetime, just exactly how would she see me?

By MA "She sees in Metaphors," written by Bryce Salazar is indeed a much revered and thought provoking book. There is more to it than meets the eye, even though the story is set in a normal family atmosphere within the everyday humdrum of cooking and the rest. In the author's psychological probe of the character, who sees the world in metaphor lies not just his depth of understanding of a surrealistic world of the mind but a trend pertaining to a mental state that warrants attention. A character steeped in grief tries to find a coping mechanism within herself as she looses her dearests.
