The Great Shift is coming...are you ready to Jump?

With Edgar Prince and the one world government imprisoned in limbo for the next one hundred years, a new Golden Age of eHumanity has begun. Evelyn Prince, the creator or Neuro and Edgar's daughter, joins Origen and the rebels to build a new world--where eHumanity will finally be free to live up to its potential. Adam and Dawn celebrate this victory in their own way, by setting out on a quest to find evidence that carbon-based humans might have survived the Great Shift.

The new leadership soon discovers that a free and open society means different things to different people--and that Neuro itself has its own agenda. When eHumans begin to die after plugging in to recharge, and Dawn goes missing while on her mission, Adam and Evelyn sense their father closing in on them from every side, and Origen knows that the game is up.

But Edgar Prince isn't the only one with many plans.

Newman This review is based on a free copy received from the author but reflects my own opinion.Having read and greatly enjoyed eHuman Dawn, I was looking forward to the sequel. I definitely was not disappointed. This book delivers as well as the first. When the last one left off, Edgar Prince and his World Government were defeated by the Resistance led by Dawn. This one begins quietly enough with Edgar still imprisoned in an eHuman limbo and Dawn and Adam on a search to find if there are any humans still alive somewhere. They discover an underwater facility guarded by menacing droid. The droid tells them he has been programmed to await the return of Elijah Prince and seems to be satisfied with Adam being Elijah Prince. Dawn and Adam are convinced that the droid is leftover from 200 years back and look at the facility as just some remnant of the past.Later they discover a surfer statue on a beach that seems to have recently place flowers on it. Adam is called back on an emergency, but Dawn insists to stay behind with the droid to explore the area to find the mystery of the statue. Pretty soon eHumans are dying when they plug into the Neuro, and Edgar Prince also gets “fried” by the system. Dawn immediately goes missing and the new government leader Origen starts to act very strange. Was Dawn taken by humans that have survived undetected for 200 years? What is wrong with Origen? Pretty soon Adam fears that Dawn is going to die as she has not plugged in to Neuro in several days and is close to going into sleep mode. Wherever she is there is no portable pack for her to recharge so after a day in sleep mode her Lux will die.Telling any more of the plot will create spoilers but the book only gets better from here on. The author does a good job of setting up tense moments as the eHumans and Adam and Dawn face their biggest threats yet. We get to learn more about the psyche of Dawn and how it may not be so great to be an eHuman as there may be better alternatives.

What parts of ourselves are we willing to give up in order to ensure our species' survival? How can technology help humanity survive into the future? And what does it mean to be human? Anderson takes up these epic themes, first introduced in eHuman Dawn, as the eHumans discover parts of their humanity that they had given up when they transitioned out of their living bodies. This second volume is more focused on the components of our human existence--our body, our spirit, our soul--and how they combine or recombine to make us who we are. At the same time, Anderson is also exploring important themes of evolving human relationships, love, and sexuality. Reimagining monogamy, polyamory, and family structures in a post-patriarchal world seems to be an important aspect of the eHuman Trilogy. And, of course, the struggle between those who seek freedom and those who seek absolute power. Happily this book is just as exciting as the first volume and your favorite characters--Dawn, Adam, and Evelyn--are back, still intent on saving the world. eHuman Deception is smart and exciting. Now we just have to wait for volume 3 to find out how humanity will ultimately resolve its conflicts!
