Meet Princess Columba, heir to the throne and a studying magician. She’s an independent princess and dreams of practicing magic at the highest level. She has no interest in the kingdom of Illinowa and doesn’t want the throne. She’ll leave that to her younger (and most annoying) brother. Love, according to Columba, is a mystery.One day, she rescues a cat from the clutches of the royal dogs. Even though her father, the king, has banned cats from the kingdom, she takes the cat back to her quarters and takes care of him. She calls him Cat and finds him delightful company. I’m looking forward to more stories in this series.Favorite Character: Princess Columba is one of those delightful fantasy heroines that you, the reader, immediate love. She’s intelligent, funny and goes against what’s expected of her. She’s a princess yet she more freedom than most women in her position. I loved her thrill at discovering the lost cat and keeping it in her sleeping quarters, away from her father and brother. I smiled at her pursuing magicks and the way she talks to the cat as if he can understand her. Inaccurate Meal Plan Suggestions By Kimberly Wilkerson I was very disappointed when reviewing the meal plans to see that certain foods that are bad for thyroid and Hashimoto's were included and recommended. For me it negates the authenticity of the rest of the information. Tomatoes are definitely bad for a thyroid condition and several of the meal plans include eating a tomato. They also included dairy and dairy is definitely bad also. I personally don't understand why they have included known foods that are bad for thyroid as part of the meal plan suggestions.

The book has many recipes which looks great to do By Michael H The book has many recipes which looks great to do, already tried one and will be trying more over the next few weeks.The detox factor is something which appeals to me as nowadays too many people are reliant on medication to cure their bodies when it is just lots of water and a good diet.The recipes use either natural juices or teas in every meal, hot drinks are a great detox, not using cooking oilThe one factor I have with this book is the fact I have to keep on clicking back and forth between the meal plan and directions on how to make the specific meal, there should be a direct link on the meal plan so I have ease to find the meal.

What i loved about this book the most was the simple to follow recipes like the almond bread easy to follow and very delicious. I'm going to recommend this book to some of my family members who have random ailments as this could be of use to them. Even if they don't have Hashimoto's thyroiditis the tips inside will still be of value to them I'm sure. This cookbook and plans helped me realize that what you put into your body really does help with the symptoms of these diseases. The author did a great job.

Welcome to the Village of Lost Souls By Denniger Bolton I’ve read a number of Minecraft books and you should know that there is an entire cult of game players who play this game on their PCs and Smart Phones, but this one is a little different. It’s more of an adventure story for children by Isabel Jones set in this realm. Maria and Benjie. It’s set up like a diary with entries made like you would expect from a diary. It starts out with the first entry warning the read that if he or she has somehow sumbled upon this diary that you are not safe here especially if you found it in the village library, you my friend are in trouble. Maria, who is the writer of the diary leaves you with one word - RUN!Maria and Benjie are off looking to create a new colony, sent to a world that was supposedly empty. It’s not. There’s a village there called the Village of Lost Souls and anyone who arrives doesn’t seem to be able to get back out. Some people just disappear never to be heard from again but these people are maybe too inquisitive, too smart. And there doesn’t seem to be any zombies or creepers around at night (like back home) and that in itself is creepy. Fun book that children of all ages (including me) will love to read. This is Book Two in the series and I can’t wait to read the rest to see what sort of trouble our pair of explorers get into.

I cannot wait to know what will happen to them in Book 3. Will they be able to escape from the Village of Lost Souls? The story is creative and well written, it is also easy to understand and follow. Minecraft is well loved for helping with building creativity and teaching real-world skills, I think this book proves that point. Reading this together with your kids is a very good way to spend time with them. It is more effective to teach the kids living and surviving skills through what they enjoy playing and reading. An inspiring and informative book for parents and/of Minecraft lovers!

Possessed a very exciting plot and that makes me more eager to read each page. There are lot of unpredictable twists. I enjoyed every minute of it. It really jumped off the page. I will be reading everything from this author. I do really enjoyed this book a lot. Perfect for your free time. The main characters were very awesome. Also the story flowed pretty well. This is the first book I've read by this author but I would definitely read more.

Goodman taps into the genre in a way unlike other books I’ve read before. He brings the monster experience into a believable level.A trench opens in the ocean floor and sporadically spits out mighty Kaiju. Much like we now track hurricanes, Kaiju are spotted in the ocean approaching land. And much like we do for hurricanes, people prepare to leave their homes if the destructive force comes their way.Rylan and his family are forced to escape from Houston as the mighty Goliad picks their town for a bit of romp and roll. The beast is tough, but the US military is tougher, and manages to bring the Kaiju to his finally resting place. And that’s where a whole other story begins.The aftermath, the rebuilding, just like people are forced to do after a cataclysmic natural event. Except in this case, there is a mountainous beast weighing tons and tons that has to be disposed of. Can you imagine what challenges arrive when dealing with a carcass that size? Especially when you’re trying to move back into your house for the rebuild?The title: Kaiju Fall, is a twist on the phenomena called Whale Fall. What’s Whale Fall? It’s essentially the remains of a large ocean mammal that finds rest thousands of feet down on the ocean floor that becomes an ecosystem for deep sea organisms. And therein lies the problem Rylan faces.Rylan’s house is basically spared from destruction. He leaves his wife and two sons with family and heads back to Houston to begin rebuilding his life. Goliad lies like a new mountain not far from his house, and as the body decays, it becomes a center of attraction for dangerous and annoying life—including scavenging Kaiju.The novel is not all Kaiju all the time. Some of Rylan’s neighbors return to the neighborhood and they learn to work together in avoiding Homeland Security and managing to rebuild their houses. But during the rebuild, they are faced with strange things that crawl out of Goliad, wild animals, and some anarchist who would rather take from others than work for themselves. However this one tells us of the struggle after a kaiju dies. What one man will do to rebuild everything he has after the awesome devastation caused by a fall. If you're looking for something that has all the epicness of a kaiju story with the heart racing acts if survival, then look no further.

By VMLM A petroleum engineer with a family―a prosperous wife and 2 inquisitive kids―is a man named Rylan Scott. Life was going well for him that is until close to his lake house, Kaiju Goliad arrived. After tearing through the region Kaiju was killed. Kaiju’s huge, lifeless frame lay dead in Rylan’s community. No one expected this to be the beginning of more evils to come. Ryan leaves to Houston to commence transforming his life. Not far from his house, is the rotting corps which is now the manifestation for great hazards. Another kaiju is on its way to Houston … not only that but there is word that an additional one is in the Gulf. After such a disastrous occasion, in what way does one put their world back together? This was a fascinating, scary at times, knuckle cracking read. It's fully original and if you like fast paced, chilling sci-fi and fantasy, then I recommend this read to you.

Herobrine Books didn't disappoint with Diary of a Minecraft Zombie Book 7: Zombie Family Reunion. There is adventure within every page, and I never wanted to put it down. I was indescribably excited when I found out that book 7 was coming out. It was nice getting to know Piggy, Steve and even Zombie as they travel to Zombie's family reunion in the mesa biome. This is a book about adventure, friends, trusting others and family. Zombie and his brother Wesley learn to get along and love each other. This is a really sweet and absorbing. It's actually pretty long and $0.99 is an amazing price for such a nice book. I would recommend this book to kids 6-13. Just trust me on this one: you will LOVE this book.

In this book of awesomeness Zack is about to go to a family reunion which happens every 100 years but Zack is totally not cool with that because he is gonna miss his friends which is something that happens to kids in the real world. And there going to the Zombie Mesa canyon a reference to the mesa verde in realy life. After that Zack had a idea to tke Steve by disguising him to look like funny smelling zombie. After that matters went worse when Zacks cousin Piggy decides to come along which to zack its like eternal punishment. So they go on the train minecart and go until they get lost in the desert the family decide to go in the cave to stay but then they ecounter problems like meeting an outlaw and alot of stuff man I'm tired writing this reviewThis author and book are fantabulous I do encourage the author to make more books in the future I recxomend this to everyone who loves minecraft. Reminiscent of the Malazan series, with imagination at least on par with Sanderson, this book delivers the goods.There's really so little originality in most epic fantasy - and self published epic fantasy is usually derivative dreck. Watered-down AD&D with English or American names, the obligatory pub scene, the Larry Sue hero who grows up a humble youth but rapidly becomes a master at swordplay or magic or both when his hands are first put to it. . . Dragons and evil sorcerers who grow mustaches because one looks ridiculous twirling empty air around one's mouth. Brawny fighters, studious mages, and bow-wielding rangers who speak with some attempt at an Irish or Scottish accent. (I blame youuuuuuu, Salvatore!) Evil, usurping kings and brave rebels and the Lost Heir to the Throne of Somewhere. (Who is usually the main character.)Some (most?) self-published writers think that you don't need a truly good story so long as you have the trappings. Not this book. Not this author.The dialogue is great. The action is great. The characters are actually three dimensional, and nothing is quite what it seems nor is anyone as good - or bad as one would think after reading the usual crap tropes from the usual crap writers. The plot is solid - this author really put a lot of thought into this book.This is my favorite book of the year so far. (I'm always holding out hope.) Spend your money - and your time - on this novel. You won't regret it. I'll be first in line for the sequel.

The tale is of two boys who set off to rescue their village and a certain pretty princess. Now don't cringe like I did when I read "rescue princess". This is no fairytale fantasy. The dashing hero although all things heroic (prophesy, sword, powers, character, looks, and all) is not who you will be rooting for and the princess might not want to be rescued. Cue in the thoroughly drab village boy who finds his un-prophesied self smack dab in the middle of history making times.I loved this book because the protagonist EARNED his place in the story. Furthermore, the author managed to capture the hilarious thoughts that must go through the OTHER village boy's head when THE village boy is suddenly discovered as all powerful. I chuckled my way through every conversation between them. There were mysteries, revelations and a cast of vivid supporting characters. I enjoyed this book a lot and will be eagerly awaiting the sequel. Kudos to the author!

The book follows the story line primarily of Simon and Alin with Leah thrown is as a twist. This might contain a few spoilers so please read forward at your own risk.Basic Overview of the Book:The book shows these two boys on two different paths to save a "Princess" figure that is Leah. Simon is the dark hero of the story who is led by his desire to stand up for himself and to save Leah. Alin is a prophesied figure that is hot headed and driven by his desire for glory in saving Leah. The book shows there development whether it be physical or mental to accomplish the rescue of Leah with a large majority of the focus on Simon. During all of this they manage to entangle themselves in a clash of two empires, the Enosh and Damascus.Character Development:The character development is an ongoing process that is easily seen in characters. The reader gets to see Simon develop his powers and understanding of them along the morality of their use throughout the book via his actions and thought processes. We get to see the secrets come out about one of the characters gradually come out with a little bit more to be discovered keeping the readers attention. There is also the seemingly static character of a few people that I believe the author uses intentionally. Overall the character building throughout the story is amazing though there seems to be a few instances where its not really there.Writing and Editing:The book is easy to understand and comprehend. The storyline is pretty linear following no more than three characters through out the entire book. The editing is well done which is rare to see in such publishing and if there were any they would be hardly noticeable.What I Loved About the Book:First off he didn't pull a Robert Jordan as I affectionately call having more character POVs than you can count on your hands and feet combined. The book was action packed and never seemed to stale. There is mystery and plot twists in abundance to keep the reader engaged to want to figure out what is going on because quite frankly the author is baiting his audience really well. He gives us a taste of the magic system with little major tidbits strewn along showing that there is something deeper is a prime example.Not to mention the main thing I love about the book is that so far there is no good or evil defined. Its all subjective to which side you sympathize with more. On one side you have an empire doing what it can to control something that will rip the world apart while another is trying to overthrow the supposed tyranny of that empire, both are believing they are doing the right thing. Then you have this other character split in the middle that's a wild card.

About the Author A life-long fan of the fantasy genre, Mr. Tyson began writing fantasy short stories just after he was first able to put words together to form sentences. In the early years, his writing was mostly influenced by the Universal movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, among others. In high school, back in the 80s, he began playing the popular roleplaying games of the time. He is still lifelong friends with the majority of his roleplaying group today! It was also during his high school days that he began to read the works of David and Leigh Eddings, JRR Tolkien, and Terry Brooks. In the 90s it was Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind etc. Mr. Tyson is quoted saying, “Fantasy authors? Yes, I am influenced by them all, but my writing style is uniquely my own.” When asked why he writes fantasy and science fiction, Mr. Tyson often replies: “Because I love fantasy. Besides, it’s not nearly as easy as it looks. Sometimes, when I am embroiled in the complexities of a difficult plotline, I think I should have taken up something easier, like Quantum Physics or String Theory. That’s just a joke, don’t send me letters!” Mark Tyson lives and writes in Texas.

This first book was a tad slow for me to read, as there wasn't a lot of action. Yet that's understandable! This book is mainly trying to set the stage for the upcoming second great war of this land. The evil that supposedly died off last time has been reborn and rebuilding his army. The readers get to know about the characters and what some of them are capable of achieving. Not much is known about the enemy, except some of them have been immensely improved on for gathering information and in war itself. I'm look forward to the next book in this series!

By CT If you enjoy the dark and riveting action of Richard K Morgan, the disturbing science of Peter Watts, and the mind-bending quantum universe settings of Hannu Rajaniemi, you've got to read this guy.This particular novel is Smith's most complicated, so be warned. Or maybe it just has so much suspense and action that sometimes you want to keep reading rather than sort out exactly what just happened.This is the second in what will be a trilogy after The Age of Scorpio. This story continues a thrilling mystery concerning people in three or four (almost) distinct times battling to shape the very existence of the human race. This means you have fantasy (in the past), tech thriller (present), and way out science fiction (future) threads all in one story. It's just brilliant. To make things worse, the writing is superb and the characters - - even the most despicable - - are completely engaging.If you haven't read Gavin Smith, you are really missing out on some of the smartest and most exciting writing in SF. A Quantum Mythology is the second book in a trilogy (?); a big problem for me what that I had read the first book, The Age of Scorpio a while ago and had forgotten a lot. I actually finished this book, went back and read The Age of Scorpio again, and then re-read A Quantum Mythology again. The structure of the books also is challenging as there are three intertwined stories. One story-line is set in ancient Britain about 3000 years ago, and reads like sword and sorcery fantasy. A second story-line is set in our present, while the third story-line is set in the far future and is pure space opera. So far, this sounds pretty routine. However, the portions of The Age of Scorpio set in the present actually take place after the portions of A Quantum Mythology set in "Now". At least some of the same characters are involved in 2 or even all 3 of the story-lines - this still isn't entirely clear even after two fairly long novels.The far future parts are by far my favorite - I am a sucker for Smith's sort of super high concept space opera and complex characters. The portions set in the present are also clearly science fiction, rather than standard contemporary fiction, and are very good. My only disappointment is with the portions set in ancient Britain, but to be honest, I have never enjoyed fantasy at all, and don't even like science fiction that deals with colonies or societies that have reverted to pre-technology or primitive technology. So I can't really blame Smith for my not liking these parts; I don't know if any writer could really engage my attention in this sub-genre.Challenges apart, and even though a third of the book is fantasy, I still found the the book to be difficult to put down. Some of the characters are very multidimensional, and there is a good deal of humor and satirical wit throughout the entire book. I really hate having to wait a year or two for the next book; by that time I am sure that I'll have forgotten enough details of the first two books that I will probably have to read them again to follow along.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Decent second book to a trilogy By Ojo A mostly entertaining continuation of Age of Scorpio. Smith is fond of the writing technique where the author never bothers to explain what's going on, rather you are immediately thrust into the action, and you begin to pick up bits and pieces of history and meaning as you go along. When done correctly, this can be great - see most works by Neal Asher for instance. But in Age of Scorpio and Quantum Mythology, it's simply frustrating. There are huge portions of both books that seem to have zero relevance to any other part of the book. One supposes their interwoven nature will be masterfully revealed in the forthcoming third book, but for the most part, it's an exercise in frustration. I personally found the "ancient Britain" sections in particular to be tedious, and rather than having some significant import to the other timelines described, it felt like the author just wanted to shoehorn in some generic medieval fantasy tale into a sci-fi book. I get that eventually these characters and their actions will be shown to have an impact on the other timelines; but spending so many pages on this boring part of the tale is really unnecessary, and just pads out what otherwise could be a much tighter narrative. The present time and future time stories, though, are interesting and engaging. One has to note there's not a lot of science here; "nanites" are effectively the "magic" of all time lines, and are used to explain away pretty much everything. The fight scenes are intricate and entertaining and well thought-out, but some descriptions of what are basically fistfights go on for pages and pages - longer than in any other book I've read. And lastly, the end of the book is pretty abrupt and offers no resolution to anything that's occurred in this or the previous book, so expect to be frustrated until the third novel is finally released.All of that being said, this still remains an entertaining book. The writing style (aside from the above quibbles) is engaging, and the action is pretty much non-stop. Definitely worth a read if you enjoyed the first book in the trilogy.

About the Author I’m currently forty-four, but that could differ depending on when you read this. Unless some fundamental laws of nature change, I expect that number to only get higher. I’m half Italian and half Irish. Well, the Irish side is sort of an Irish/German/English/French/Scottish mix, but since I believed I was truly half Irish until my mother’s foray into genealogy, I’m sticking to that story. I live amidst the Smoky Mountains and can sometimes see cloud shadows lying on the mountainside from my front porch. I am not yet snobbish enough to call it a veranda, but time will tell. Sometimes my young adult daughter joins me on the veranda . . . err, porch . . . to admire the view. Often, my Australian Shepherd runs around the veranda chasing off the thieving birds who attempt to steal food from the bird feeders we leave out. What would we do without him? I started working full time while in high school and haven’t stopped since. My illustrious career began with a smattering of service experiences at various fast food and restaurant chains, went on to fine jewelry, slipped into property management for housing projects, morphed into corporate real estate, then ended up in mergers and acquisitions. Please don’t ask how that happened as it’s still a mystery to me. My home is a modestly sized ranch with living-room walls of boring light beige, which make the perfect backdrop for my brightly colored Klimt and Van Gogh canvas prints. Van Gogh and Klimt would like to move into my dining room and bedroom next, but their expansion will have to wait on the success of my latest story. All things in due time. More importantly than all the above, you absolutely must know my favorite color is purple. Not Barney purple—no offense to Barney—but more of a medium eggplant purple. I like to think of it as a “mature” purple, but deep down I know it’s really just purple.

If you have not read the first one yet, the Light who Shines, do so now! I enjoyed this book immensely. Blue, her companion Varg, a gorgeous wolf, and Jack, her boss at the Investigation Agency, are off on another adventure. Blue is about to make some interesting, stunning discoveries about herself, which both scare and confuse her. We learn more about Varg as well, and Blue's romantic feelings for Jack lead her to force him to make a decision. In this book, a mysterious firestarter is causing havoc, townsfolk are out to destroy vampires and gifted alike and it is up to Blue, Jack and the agency to solve the baffling mystery and protect the innocent. The writing in this book is lyrical, and flows like a beautiful melody throughout. The pace is scintillating and keeps you reading way past bedtime! The intricacies of the plot are carefully knitted together into a stunningly suspenseful way, and you are inexorably drawn into the characters, becoming one with them. I felt every emotion; anxiety, fear, sadness, joy, excitement, all of it. There were even parts that brought me to tears, which does not often happen when I read. At the end of the book, I felt as if my emotions had been put through a wringer, and as I came out of this dream world, I realized that I was not a character! What a shock! The Light who Binds is a MUST READ! I will be awaiting further books most eagerly, as my secret life must continue! Well done Lilo J Abernathy for an amazing book! I wish you much success with this series!

Captivating the Senses By Kindle Customer Lilo Abernathy has done it again and captivated my senses in her second installment of the Bluebell Kildare series. I absolutely could not get enough of this book; I read it straight through in one sitting. She has a way of making you feel so much for each character (major and minor). I still love all the first characters from Blue’s support system, Maude, her best friend, Varg, but I hate to say it, but Lilo’s unredeemable character Dean Schmidt from book one had me wishing for one more chapter with him in it. The relationship between Blue and Jack had me – no let me rephrase that – It HAS me on pins and needles and has me clambering impatiently for Book Three. I swear I was clutching my chest for several minutes at the conclusion of this novel.The Light Who Binds is well written and fully developed, making it such a fun, fast, pleasurable read. I highly recommend this book to all Paranormal and Fantasy enthusiasts.Review of Lilo’s writing style:I love the way Lilo unveils the story from two points of view, Bluebell and Jack (her boss and love interest). I found it easy to keep up with the switch; however, it was nice of Lilo to add an easy transition. This transition can be found at the beginning of each chapter where she announces each POV along with the date as a deterrent upon possible confusion.For those who need a little reminder of all the wonderful details from Book One, that’s okay, because Lilo added a refresher the reader can choose to read or skip. She reminds us of the different breeds of people and who the main characters are as well as provides a timeline and an account of magical artifacts and objects.It’s always nice to come across an author who is willing to enhance the reader’s enjoyment, and Lilo Abernathy did just that. It’s such fun to watch a writer’s technique as well as their characters grow. I will assuredly be following Lilo Abernathy down the rabbit hole in her series.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. In love!! By Red Riding Hood I'm absolutely in love with the world Lilo Abernathy has created. It sucks you in and I don't wanna leave! I'm invested in this story and I really didn't want to finish the book since I know I'll have to wait for the next one! The words just flow right off the page and stick with you. The characters have stolen my heart, all of them.Blue is growing so fast and turning into quite the little bad arse. She's one of those characters you can't help but love, she is trying so hard to fulfill her destiny and it's refreshing to have that. She isn't one to whine about stuff that happens to her, she kicks butt and continues on. Blue has quickly become one of my favorite female leads!Jack. Oh Jack. I really just want to give him a big hug. He has so much turmoil going on inside him and my heart goes out to him. I love seeing the dual POV's, I love looking inside of Jack's head. His whole thinking process is protecting Blue, even from himself. He is such a great character and I love him and Blue together. Their whole relationship/friendship is amazing to see. And Varg!! Varg is awesome! So protective and loyal, I love him!!This book had me thoroughly engrossed from page one. I'd recommend it to all who love urban fantasy. You won't be able to put it down! Can't wait for the next book!!

A unique tool to guide the industry along the path to maximally affordable, highest quality healthcare in the US & beyond By EW Sharing riveting examples from his role as Director of Managed care for one of California’s top medical groups, Shapiro illustrates a robust process through which the health industry can maximize quality and affordability of care for patients. Highlighting pitfalls and barriers, Shapiro also details those strategies that he and his team have found most useful to surmount them. This work carries unique insight - information found nowhere else. Herein lies guidance we cannot do without as we navigate the system-wide transformation upon us, with the shared goal to minimize human suffering, reduce the burden of disease and achieve sustainable care, accessible to all.

By CnT I had the great pleasure of reading a pre-release copy of Dr. Shapiro's book - what an amazingly important time for this information!Shapiro is clearly an “Agent of Change” for health, and at a time most needed. Here, he describes Variation Reduction, an innovative process guiding physicians in the evaluation of their own practice data to maximize quality and affordability of care. Shapiro illustrates a generalizable, patient-centered, collaborative platform to identify and maintain value in any health care delivery system. The book shares the fascinating background for his vision for the program, including his unique insight into the varied and conflicting economic, legislative, ethical and emotional forces affecting the range of stakeholders in the US health care market, including care providers, insurers, patients and employers. Shapiro’s illumination of the recent history and current context, along with his presentation of the Variation Reduction model as a clear and transferrable process, struck me with a great sense of relief. I see the relevance of this model in a variety of settings, including both national and international low resource settings – although data may be increasingly available in many such settings, few understand how to use information quickly and effectively to target resources to working solutions, and therein effectively reduce the burden of disease. The power of information is astonishing, and Shapiro's strategy is highly applicable. It is exciting to consider how powerful this process can be, even in the face of the crushing burden of disease in so many areas. Tools like Variation Reduction are widely needed, and may well emerge as a key to effective, affordable health care on a worldwide scale

What a refreshing change to see physicians taking responsibility for their role in healthcare costs at a grassroots level. Dr Shapiro provides an excellent overview of the history of clinical variation and gives practical information on how to start a variation reduction program in your own institution. A must read for physicians interested in providing appropriate, value driven care for their patients.
