Malcolm Carter and Ryan Boone, two New York City friends whose lives have been dominated by the financial markets, are about to exchange their charts and reports for guns and survival supplies—but not because they want to. When China and Japan decide it’s time to dump U.S. Treasury Bonds, an economic nightmare plays out in America. The Federal Reserve watches helplessly as the dollar is decimated and the resulting food shortage spreads lawlessness across the land like a virus. Malcolm is a successful day trader who always needs to make one more score before he’ll listen to Ryan and diversify some of his assets into real estate or gold. He figures an impressively-larger bank account might be the only way he can lure his Secret Service agent ex-wife back. Malcolm finally hits it big by aggressively shorting bonds when the market crashes, but waits too long to invest in tangibles. All that newfound money suddenly won’t by him a bar of gold, a pint of beer, or a minute of Hannah’s attention—especially when she’s in the field chasing down a former counterfeiting gang. As luck would have it, Ryan turns out to be a closet doomsday prepper. The two of them attempt to escape the chaotic Big Apple and reach Ryan’s land in West Virginia, supplied only by the contents of Ryan’s bug-out bag. But it’s not going to be an easy journey. Traveling has become difficult and dangerous. Malcolm learns he must redirect the same tenacity which helped him beat the markets towards staying alive on the road …and, hopefully, finding Hannah.

Buck Out, by Ken Benton

From the Author In 1933, a Presidential executive order forced all American citizens to surrender their "excess gold" to the federal government. This enabled a bullion depository in Fort Knox to be created, which would act as a guarantee for all U.S. currency in circulation. In 1971 the U.S. President removed the gold standard requirement from the U.S. Dollar. By the year 2015, the amount of currency in circulation grew to 1.36 trillion, according to the Federal Reserve. The last audit of Fort Knox was conducted in 1953. Critics have accused the U.S. government of secretly selling its gold reserves over the last several decades, and demand that a new audit be conducted of Fort Knox. The federal government has not complied. Meanwhile, the national debt has grown to more than 18 trillion dollars, or more than $56,000 for every man, woman and child alive in America today. It grows larger by the hour. Buck Out FAQ's Could this really happen? Collectively, China and Japan own more than 25% of all U.S. Treasury Bonds. Many economists believe that if both these countries suddenly decided to unload their entire supply, it would result in a financial crisis in America the likes of which we haven't seen since the great depression. Please note, however, that this book remains a work of fiction in its entirety. Hopefully. Is there a lot of hard profanity in the book? Only a few isolated incidents. Are there sex scenes? No. Is there violence? Yes. Is this book DRM-protected? No. Please enjoy it on all your devices.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. surprisingly good read. By Candace T. I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed Buck Out. This book was very much on point with American currency and the issue we have in this country concerning debt. What made this story so frightening was that this story was so true. It hit very much at home. Wherever there is greed there is chaos and in America there is a lot of greed. This book had two major storyline plots the were interconnected very nicely and made for an even more enjoyable read. It was enjoyable to see the characters in the story come full circle placing behind them what they thought was important and putting before them what ultimately was the most important.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good read By Rain23 Jumps around a bit. The characters have real life personal problems, though it does also have that standard rich prepper thing going on - with a twist. Some good values here too. As a bonus, the author can spell and has a good vocabulary. Reality based violence but no lurid sex to inflate the word count. Going to read more by this author.

I've never liked stories that include the financial market or how money moves through the system, but I thoroughly enjoyed Buck Out. It had me hooked right from the beginning. I loved the characters and the story line and would definitely read this book again!
