Nitpicking By atmvyo Started off slow, but the second half of the book definitely made up for it.A thing that bugged me was that there didn't seem to be a recharge period. It seems like Max is constantly wary, constantly pondering, constantly being bombarded with new information. Ohh and he never seems to have any time to farm.I just wish there would be a time skip and then a summary explaining the stuff that happened in the meantime.Also the battle scenes are a bit dry with a lot of vague language; things like: ohh someone got killed, someone screamed, a number of people got killed, etc. It just doesn't make the battle exciting. I want to know what the enemy is thinking and what the allies are thinking. I want to see a better picture of the troops. For example, 300 mages, 1000 swordsmen, 200 knights etc. I want to see some really tough opponents among the random trash be highlighted. But I understand that this is first person point of view novel, I just think even from a first person point of view the novel could still have more clear and precise language, and not vague unclear language that just skims through the battles.It would also be awesome to see what the effects of Max's skills are on other people.I would also love to see a map of AlterWorld. Also, are there like local monarchs or is there any government at all in AlterWorld. These things are just very vague.It would also be cool to see Max's stats and skills and how much damage they do. For example, when he buffed up to 19000hp, i can't even figure out if it's a lot or not because I don't know how much damage he takes from attacks. And even during battle we aren't aware of how much damage he takes and what skills the opponents use.I usually don't like first person point of view novels, but this story is just so interesting. But I still think it would be much better if it was in third person.Anyway, the story is really awesome!!! But a lot of the things are very vague and there doesn't seem to be any order to things. For example, even the clan specifics are unknown. I would love to know how many people total they have, what are the other titles besides the guild master Max. The necessary specific of the clan, the cities, the clusters etc., are unspecified. for example what are the top clans within the city, cluster, and Alterworld? Where does Children of the Dark rank? How does Children of the Dark compare to other clans? Who is the top ranked player in the cluster? What's his level? How does Max compare to him?It just seems the author throws in a lot of information that has no meaning because there isn't anything to compare it to. For example, A million gold means nothing if we don't know how much gold it takes to buy anything. We don;t know if that's a lot or that's not enough because we don't have anything to compare it too. Same things go for Max's equipment and stats because we don't get the average equipment of the people or the average of their stats.The story and the progress is the best, which is why I gave it 5 stars, but the story lacks details and crucial norms and standards that could make it 100x better.I would love to see something like, "The Russian cluster has x number of cities, x number of citizens, average level etc." Those things are what makes the clans and characters stand out from everyone else.

Scott the best book in the series, by far. i loved the first three books in this series. but this one took it up a notch. ive read 1000,s of books in my life. this book is in my all time top 5. the world building, the characters, the action are all great. even if you never played a video game in your life, you should get this series. i wish i could give it 6 *

LitRPG is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. I hope to see more Play to Live books as well as more authors putting forth their own works.I do hope the books slow down a little with the protagonists leaps in power. At this point he needs to even out a little or his struggles become meaningless as he already seem to be breezing through one conflict after another.If you enjoy the series, I encourage you to donate so we can get the books translated faster.

The information in this book would be great to know while still in your early 20's. It's also great for people who may think they are the only ones suffering financial setbacks. Her prose is gorgeous. Her storyline will keep you stressing and screaming at the characters. Mostly, though, she makes you consider what you would do if you could erase regret. Would you? At what cost? Personally, I think I'll leave time travel alone.

I understood the characters and why they did what they did. This story makes me think about what I would change, if I could...and would I go back in time? This novelette is well worth the read, and this author will without doubt produce many more fascinating stories. We should all stay tuned!

Gave 3 stars because does not provide access to any power point notes which would be great for quick reviews of the lengthy chapters. As much as book cost there should be access to pp slides b/c information is a bit overwhelming for CT students trying to pass the registry. But good info, would use as a reference book for registry not as a direct study tool.

I acknowledge the tribute to Babylon 5 made by the author in some of the names of characters & places he chose for this romp through dangerous stars. I liked being able to recognise the parity between the Political climate within the federation & our western world today. I would hate to think that his fiction could be an insight into our own futures on Earth.The story itself has a fine mix of situations. There's the not so enlightened self interest, creating political manipulations which ultimately, destroy those who instigated the machinations. There's loyal fortitude inspiring heroic daring in the face of great danger. (I know I found myself holding my breath more than once). There are numerous strategies & battles, sacrifice & heart felt loss. All the ingredients are there for an above average story. I felt compelled to keep reading to find out what happened next, & when that happens.......well I know It's got me & therefore is a tribute to the author. Both his imagination & writing style are captivating. Well done Christopher. I look forward to the next instalment.

It has been sitting on my shelf (or rather on the drive of my tablet) quite a while. I have to admit that I was a bit afraid that it would be “yet another” story on the subject of the fall of human society due to political nonsense and bureaucracy as well as too similar to Mr. Nuttall’s The Empire’s Corps series.Well, I was wrong on that. Sure, there certainly are similarities but this book is also quite different in several ways. One of the most important differences is that it is not at all as apocalyptic and dark as The Empire’s Corps series. I also feel that it is more focused on the adventures and military campaigns of our heroes than The Empire’s Corps. Sure there’s a lot of political manoeuvring, idiocy and treachery but the majority of the book is about the adventures of Admiral Drake and the young Roman Garibaldi, the latter being truly thrown into the deep end right out of the naval academy.This book is really my cup of tea. It mixes two of my favourite themes. One being really good space combat and strategy between fleets of capital ships. The other being the development and advancement of a young hero in the navy as he rises in the ranks. As usual Mr. Nuttall’s writing is excellent and was a pleasure to follow the characters, how they developed and how the plot unfolded. As I wrote above the story is much less dark and much more positive than The Empire’s Corps. Unlike in that book our heroes are indeed successful in staving off the worst case scenario. In addition the bad guys, that is of course the political a--holes, are getting exactly what they deserve in the end.The author throws in a few romances as well. No good space opera can be without those I guess. Although one of them are a quite important part of the overall plot I would say that those parts are not very extensive but that is fine with me. I prefer the military aspects and adventures myself.Although this book is fairly positive in the end, with a rather happy ending, without too much apocalyptic elements the events that unfold are bad enough and there are plenty of troubles and dangers ahead. I will continue to follow this book series with great interest. Book number two is already out and, without having read it, I hope that there will be more coming.

By Amazon Customer The historic references used to build the story become all to real when you see how politics rage out of control and how democracy gets perverted into something semi-hereditary and elitist, nepotism is rife and society stagnates trying to maintain a status quo. Whether the reference stems from the Roman Empire, the more modern European countries or the continental US, they all made and make similar mistakes because the either wrong people get elected to lead or the right people become corrupted or chained by those in the establishment that fail to step aside when their time has come and frantically try to maintain their position.Unfortunately, one can never live in the past and societies and their government systems, like biological species, need to change to adapt to the needs of the moment (even if changing means going back to a different variation of something that has existed before, because of a current "need") or become obsolete and eventually extinct. Unfortunately humanity 's leaders never learn the lessons from the past and always believe it will be different this time.The writer captures all these elements and weaves them into a story injected with plenty of action and adventure to avoid becoming a political history narrative, but if one reads between the lines, the lessons are there.

By MidnightAce Just when I thought I had things figured out the author threw in more twists and turns, introduced more characters that gave me WTF moments. Mr. Williams jammed on seamlessly tying all the storylines together that took me to the edge and back several times, making this my favorite one of the series.The conclusion of the War Angel Trilogy has been bitter sweet moments leading up to and the final chapter. In any great series you can’t help but become engaged in the characters and the mission of the storyline, thus making it hard to say goodbye/The End.In the beginning of the series these questions were stated; “What would you do to hold on to the life you love? Are the lines between right & wrong as clearly defined as we would like to believe or are they more blurred than we would ever admit?” Well after reading the entire series it’s obvious that there are no limits to what Lenox and Jahaira would go to, to ensure the happiness and protection of those they love. I would have to say the lines are more blurred than we would ever admit. The opening quote of the final installment “Only the dead have seen the end of the war” was befitting/spot on and brings us full circle in the journey of each character’s mission. The chain of events after one man’s death starts this War and until the last man is left standing can this war end.I found myself intrigued by the way the author wove the symbolism of the crows throughout the story. If you are looking for something fresh that will keep you on the edge, check this series out. You will find suspense, betrayal, lies, deceit, blood & violence, but also a love story so spiritually powerful the bond was unbreakable that made the couple a force to be reckon with.

I've enjoyed reading this series so much."Only the dead have seen the end of war." --Plato.This is so true in the War Angel series and our own world, if you think about it.Part III picks up 16 years after the end of Part II and ties up a lot of unfinished business from Part II, with the same level of suspense and action. Revelations are made, new partnerships formed (even ones that will surprise you) and evil is still on the menu; but our protagonist, Catalina possesses something special she wasn't aware she had.Williams introduces us to new characters, new schemes, and has us rooting for our original protagonists to be reunited and victorious. The ride is fast paced and fun to unfold.A series worth checking out if you are seeing this review before reading the first two books in the series.My favorite phrase in the book; "There were no words, in any language formed by the tongues of men to explain..." (no spoilers here)Also Williams has penned a novella (Tourniquet) while we were still savoring book #2. It spins off from earlier characters and is an excellent story as well. This was the most creative and exciting book that I have read in a long time. Author Keith Kareem Williams is a genius at his craft and he definitely saved the best for last. I was hooked from page one of the prologue. The author did a excellent job of tying all three story lines together, this book had me mesmerized and wanting to know what was going to happen next and how each character would fare.In War Angel III, Lenox finds himself without his wife Jahaira and raising their teen daughter, Catalina alone. Until one day she goes missing and he is forced back into the battle of good versus evil. Lenox easily reverts back into his warrior mode and he will stop at nothing to find her and bring her home safely even if it kills him.I really enjoy this War Angel trilogy. Since discovering this author I have read several of his books. He continues to amaze me with his writing skills. I recommend War Angel III, Catalina. If you haven't read War Angel and War Angel II please do so.

Rand I love this series and this book is a perfectly fine piece of work but suffers from the all-too-common problem of being half a book. Well written though somewhat predictable, functions entirely to set up a cliffhanger exactly where one would expect it to be.I will buy the next book in the series but I do wish authors and publishers would either stop this silliness and admit that it's a half a book in advance, or wait till its finished and charge appropriately. I would rather buy the book as a finished 2 volume piece so I can get to the end of a story than live life as though serial publication from the days of the 19th century was inevitable.Good first half of the next book in the series. Unless you want to slog through re-reading it a year from now to get back in synch with the story I recommend you wait for the next one and buy them together.

By Athrogate22 If you are a follower of the Empire Corps and feel you need to read this book because you are curious about how the Commonwealth is going to bounce back from the disaster of stupidity it suffered at Laksmibai, you will be sadly disappointed.This entire book is another Commonwealth disaster. Instead of Laksmibai, it's another world named Thule. The Commonwealth falls straight into traps set by Admiral Singh and her pawns over and over again, throughout the book, being outsmarted at every turn. There is not a single moment of "good job Commonwealth." It's pure crap after crap. The final "battle" is summed up as follows: Cut to Admiral Singh point of view: 5 pages of inner thoughts about how great everything is going. Cut to Jasmine point of view: 5 pages of inner thoughts about how terrible its going. Cut to Joe Buckley point of view: 5 pages of everything going to crap. Cut back to Singh point of view: 5 pages of everything's going my way. Cut to Mandy point of view: 5 pages of inner thoughts about being able to do nothing and feeling helpless. Cut to leader of Thule government point of view: "oops, I'm dead." Back to Admiral Singh: "Empress Singh. I like the sound of that."And the whole time every Commonwealth leader, Jasmine, Mandy, Stalker, etc., all they can do is worry if they'll still have a job when the dust settles.The worst part of this book, our favorite character, Colonel Stalker, is barely mentioned at all. He's pretty much put on trial for the last books' idiocy, then notified at the end of this books disaster.So if you want to read an entire book with your favorite characters getting their asses kicked, fretting about their job security, and getting played by the evil Wolfbane empire, this book is for you. If you are like me and like to see something go right for your favorite characters, avoid this waste of paper. You can read the next book without reading this one. All you need to know: Thule fell, Singh is leading the Wolfbane attack on the Commonwealth, Jasmine is captured, and the rebels on Thule will be fighting Wolfbane now instead of the Commonwealth.That's it. You can avoid this entire book and save 5 bucks.

As another reviewer said,, this book is pretty much about the highly vaunted terran marines getting badly beaten at every turn, by every trick that is run against them. I actually finished the book and tried to figure out what the point of another book was! This book comes pretty close to presenting a situation that is hopeless. I can deal with reading books in which the good guys don't always have everything go right. In fact, that is needed for the story to be believable. But, damn, nothing goes right in this book! Let's just kill off everyone, shut down the Commonwealth and be done.

Hartke Carolyn Jourdan has hit another home run with this fascinating collection of stories from radiologists whom she interviewed.Radiologists at Work … has stories that are Laugh Out Loud funny, others that cause me to cringe in that fascinated sort of way. There is a wonderful description of a skeleton that made my 7 year old giggle, so I read him the next story about a pitchfork that caused us to have a biology lesson on the metarsals. I’ll read him some other stories, being sure to scan first as most are well beyond a PG rating.Which brings me to another joy of this book. I can read it with constant interruptions. I do not have the luxury of uninterrupted hours to read a book, and this format fits perfectly.The book is full of interesting insights on so many subjects. I always enjoy how Carolyn shows where stereotypes come from and explains the actual people who may be different because of their circumstances. She helps me, and I hope all who read her books, increase my understanding and tolerance of our differences.I was once a medical assistant and I sold imaging compression software at the dawn of the current wave of telemedicine, so the subject interests me greatly. I recommend this book to all who enjoy learning a little bit about many subjects, even with no medical background. All you need is an interest in learning while being entertained. Carolyn is a master at weaving knowledge of many facets into her stories.

It starts out in the "old days" when film was hand-developed and you had to wear red goggles to "dark adapt" to do fluroscopy and ends with doctors doing interventional radiology and film is no more. I was a radiologic technologist for over 50 years, retired 10 years ago and still miss the work. I would have loved working with each one of the radiologists in this book. This book would be great for students of today to read and to see from whence their profession came. I only have one little quibble about this...the author refers to us as "technicians" several times. We are TECHNOLOGISTS. There is a difference!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Shining a light behind the scenes By C.A. Wulff Entertaining and just packed with information about radiology. Nearly all of us have been x-rayed at some time in our lives. This book explains the "behind the curtain" world of these doctors most of us will never meet. The stories told by the doctors are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but Jourdan's writing style is always clear and understandable.
